FASFA Income Verification Worksheet Household Expense Breakdown

My child was selected for Income Verification Worksheet due to 0 income being reported for household of 3 due to unemployment. Will reporting living with my boyfriend for free vs living with my mother for free affect anything? Will he have to report his earnings?

How will this effect things differently than the months we lived for free with my mother?

You won’t have to report your boyfriend’s or mother’s incomes.

The school justifiably wants to know how you are paying your day to day expenses with $0 income. Someone has to be providing some kind of financial support to you…right?

You just need to report that you lived with a relative & a friend, who provided free housing. If they also provided food, state that. If you received public assistance, state that. If you received any other support, such as child support or alimony, say that. I have seen many families who live on very little, and they are hesitant to detail how they actually make it … but the point of financial aid is to help students rise above this sort of situation. Verification results in too many students just never going to school - they are overwhelmed & embarrassed by the information they are asked to provide. Relax, explain the reality of your situation, and submit the document. Best to you!

Thank you so much for your help!
