FASFA - Parental Information Section 3

I am double posting - first time filling out. This question seems like it should be easy but I can't find an answer.

I am on disability retirment from the library. I don't pay in to SS so instead of traditional disability you retire. I receive a 1099 each year not a W-2. On the form Questions 89 & 90 ask for parents earning specifically off W-2. There is no where else I can report this income because I do pay taxes on it. Anyone have experience with this or can directme to a site with info. Thanks in advance.

I assume you report this income on a 1040. The income is thus part of your AGI. This is how it is taken into consideration. You do not have income from work, thus you do not report it as such. Your W-2 income is 0.

For people with an AGI from a tax return the question about W2 income is there for the EFC formula to use in calculating certain allowances against income earned from work. For instance there is an allowance for FICA taxes based on income earned from work and a % in the EFC formula. As you have no income from work you do not have to put anything in these fields. As kelsmom said - the income itself is already included in your AGI.

That was our original thought, but then there is a disparity between the AIG and the actual income and it never shows up anywhere else on the FASFA form. THe most obvious spot Q95 - J is XXXX on the work sheet money received. There is no section for received 1099 income. Thanks for your help.

Am I worrying too much about the details of this like you would a tax form?

Where is the disparity between the AGI and the actual income? Is the 1099 income not included in the AGI?

It doesn't matter that there is a disparity between the AGI and the income. There are many things that affect the AGI (taxable portions of pension, dividend income, investment income, business income/loss, etc). Trust me, if your 1099 info is on the first page of your 1040, it doesn't have to be included as a line item on your FAFSA.

Thank you all - sent in and finished.
