Got my acceptance letter on Monday. @_@
I got my acceptance letter!!! Now I need a roommate. Anyone interested???
yesss also need a roommate.
@thissuxs @Valen1 What type of dorms are you guys interested in?
I’m hoping to score a traditional double room in Nagler Hall.
did anyone apply for housing yet???
@Valen1 Yes I applied for housing awhile back. I was “confirmed” housing but I don’t know if I’ve been assigned to a specific dorm or not…? Are there two different steps for that? As in you first apply for housing confirmation and then apply for a specific dorm? @gartter Yess I prefer Nagler Hall although I wouldn’t mind if I were to be placed anywhere else
First you submit your deposit which reserves you a space in the dorms in general, and then you’re either confirmed housing or placed on the waitlist for housing.
If you’re confirmed for housing, when roommate profiles (accessable via myfit) open up on may fifteenth you should go shuffle through profiles and try and find someone/people that you’d be willing to dorm with so that when you apply for whatever specific type of dorm you want to get into (alumni, coed, nagler), you can apply with another person and that way you’d be more likely to get into the dorm of your choice.

So whose getting traditional dorm or apartment style??
Hi guys! I am going to be a junior in high school in the fall, and plan on attending FIT. I would like to go for Fashion Merchandising Management (FMM) my GPA right now is around a 3.4 I have not yet taken the SAT or ACT. However for my transcript I would have a dog clothing business that i have had since age 13, I sewed the clothing myself and had a retail business. As well, my mom went to FIT. As well I would have 2 recommendations from doctors that i currently work for. Next year i plan on taking AP art history, and more art classes. Freshman year i took a fashion course in my school. I have known how to sew since i was 8 years old thanks to my mom. I plan on taking FMM pre- college classes at FIT in the fall 2015 and winter 2016. Anyhow, what do you think my chances are of getting into FIT so far? And any advice of how to make myself look better? Thank You so much !!!
@Valen1 Although i like the layout of the traditional dorm better, I’d want the apartment style cause you don’t have to have a meal plan…eh so i guess either one is fine. All the residence halls and dorm styles seem to have pros/cons that balance them all out pretty evenly
@prettigirl102 Hi! Its really good to be planning ahead - although I didn’t apply for FMM, I know it is the most popular major at FIT and is thus the most competitive (I believe?). I think that the essay and your GPA and classes you’ve taken are the most important. My advice is to go to FIT’s website and look into & research FMM and structure your essay in a way that shows that your high school activities and such have prepared you for FMM (& stay on topic!). I believe it’s also important to assert your individuality and what makes you stand out from other applicants - especially since so many people apply to FMM. And since you are planning in advance - maybe seek out a job/intern or another type of experience from now until the time you apply that is similar to the demands of FMM? Again so that you can convey to FIT that your experiences have prepared you for the rigors of FMM. Thats what I did anyways Good luck, I hope my advice is somewhat helpful haha and I hope you get in!! <3
thanks ! Can you perhaps give me some suggestions for classes or internships i can take to help advance my experience.
@prettigirl102 np well, what I did was I went to the FIT website and they give all required classes that you would have to take for whatever specific program - its very helpful! you go to the FIt website - go to the academics tab & select undergraduate academics - select your program - and under “helpful links” to the left sidebar there will be a tab “course descriptors”. Thats a brief overview of the program anyways. Focus your classes & internships around what you find. Any specific maths, business classes, ect. but if you’re school doesn’t offer those, then its not the end of the world~ It just shows your interest. haha actually my school offered NO whatsoever classes even remotely relatable or helpful for the fashion industry - so what i did to improvise is I wrote my IB extended essays and focus other assigned school projects around things that would better prepare me for attending FIT and the fashion industry. For instance, since i knew in high school i wanted to attend FIT’s school of business and technology, I wrote my math essay/IA on how businesses use math…and I included all those specific essays/projects that ‘expanded my knowledge on the fashion industry’ in my FIT application essay Looking up the course descriptors could help give you ideas and such to help focus whatever project your assigned(if you decided to do that!). And since you probably can’t get a professional job in FMM haha (yet!) you can still try to intern under a local fashion merchandiser for awhile - maybe for the summer and such. IF you are able to do so, you can include that in your essay as well and list your relatable experiences and what you’ve learned or how it’s helped you grow ect. I hope this helps…but let me know if you have any more questions, I’d be happy to help!
@thissuxs I like the apartment style a lot better, I don’t know if I would like to cook or not on a daily basis though. Also, I heard that the meals aren’t that great.
thanks so much I’m gonna check out the website right now!
@Valen1 I think college food in general isn’t that great I don’t cook alot either but I’d still prefer no meal plan. I know chances of getting an apartment in Nagler is pretty slim - there are only 15 apartments in Nagler. Is it the same way for the other residence halls??
@thissuxs Nagler is all girls, so am not sure about the layout. Other halls are either quad, triple double, or single. But the singles and doubles are slim chances. I would definitely do quad, but idk about living with so many guys.
