My goal is to work for a fashion magazine in New York. I have done research about people working for fashion publications and it seems as if they come from all different schools with different humanities-related degrees. My question is: Are there any schools that have any focus on fashion journalism? As far as I know, there aren't, so would it be wisest to be a journalism major? (Honestly, my dream job would be reporting on fashion, working on editorials, styling, etc., so I don't know if a journalism major would be the best choice-- my problem is what major/school I should choose).

I'm currently a first-year art major at a UC (about to double in journalism, maybe?) and considering a transfer.

art/journalism double-major sounds good to me. What you really need is to get some internshps at some local magazines so you have a resume to back up your interest.

Hello fellow fashion journalism desirees! I'm currently a fashion major concentrating my studies in fashion journalism. I go to Columbia College Chicago and they have a "fashion management" program that allows you to concentrate your studies in marketing, merchandising, styling, journalism, retail, etc...it's a really fun program

There are two other schools with fashion journalism programs that I'm aware of...Academy of Art University in San Francisco has a fashion journalism major and University of Nebraska at Lincoln has a fashion journalism major. Best of luck! In reality, any humanities major from a reputable school combined with internships in the industry will be good for breaking into this field...as well as lots of clips.

I am currently studying Fashion Design and working on my bachelors in this field at IADT. After I graduate I plan to further my schooling in the fashion industry but plan on going to California to school. I want to get a degree in Fashion Journalism. I’d like to talk to fashion designers, research on things like that and eventually have my own column in a newspaper/magazine. I enjoy producing clothing and I’m sure that be a profitable career to fall back on or do on the side. Writing has and always will be the number one thing I enjoy and broadening my horizons, and getting the most out of life is what I want to do. So if anyone knows of any good colleges (preferably in Los Angeles, CA or close to) that focus on fashion journalism or just journalism please let me know.
