I think it’s both
But if you’d gone grey as a very young adult ( as I was by 22, it probably woukd have been on your radar.). It would have been a constant source of comment by others.
We have two threads going right now. One about not caring about fashion and one that does.
I’m happy that people get to express who they are.
I’m dyeing my hair, it makes me happy. Gives me confidence. If you don’t, I’m ok with that also.
My '22 is going off to college soon. Cleaning through loads of boxes I found the bedazzled the kids use to use when they wanted to decorate clothing they had made. Brought back lots of memories.

For those of you who have dyed or tinted your eyebrows, how often do you need to do it? Does it look obvious (to anyone who has known someone with dyed/tinted brows)?
I don’t dye my hair. I have dark hair and my grey is primarily near my temples, but only if people are looking carefully at me do they notice. I am, however, more grey than my mom or my sister who is 10 years my senior (both of whom dye their hair). And that sister has, in fact, been mistaken for my mother in recent years.
My cousin’s wife’s hair went white naturally at a very early age. I think I met her when she was around 40ish, and she had a head of long, white hair. But when one looked at her face, it was very smooth and youthful looking. I also recall some other people who went grey/white/silver early, and they rocked their looks. They were confident and comfortable with themselves and I don’t think it aged them because they just looked like themselves. Nobody thought they were 20, but nobody was asking them if they needed help crossing the street or lifting up a bag of groceries, either.
My eyebrow color lasts about a month. I get it from Amazon (Godefroy brand), three applications per package. Takes less than 10 minutes to do.
What is you are riding a bike???
Right. A bike short is the way it is for a purpose. Now some people do wear them when not riding - I have seen them under shorter athleisure dresses and think they can look ok.
I also use Godfrey brand from Amazon. It’s not obvious if you pick the right color. I do my eyebrows with their dark brown every two weeks. I touch up my temples and hairline with my eyebrow color too in between coloring my hair. You can also tint your eyelashes with it, but I can’t do it myself without getting it my eyes. I tint my lashes when my daughter is home to help.
I live in a bicycling mecca and, it’s just my opinion, but there are lots of other clothing to choose from besides those tight lycra (or whatever material) bike outfits. They’re just not made for everyone to wear IMO.
Is sunscreen allowed….
It’s probably a very very small percentage of people here who are spending oodles of time e and money to look “perfect”. Not the intent of the thread .
May everyone, make up full or not, wrinkle free or not be filled with love and memories. None of that is taken away by walking out your door looking and feeling good about your look.
I have only done it once, but I was blown away by the results! The brow artist said it would last as long as the eyebrow “renewal cycle” (typically 6-8 weeks or so). I thought I lost my eyebrows to some sort of alopecia or something a while ago. They were simply invisible, lol. The artist used the color to match my hair. IMO, the results look very natural. Little kid - the bride to be at that time - gave two thumbs up.
Lots of words of wisdom here…
Absolutely!! Sunscreen is everyone’s friend.
No offense intended…as you say, there is nothing wrong with whatever makes us feel good as we go out the door. I only meant to say don’t any of us put too much pressure on ourselves to meet an expectation.
I found my first gray hair on my 18th bday, and I’ve been dying my hair, first with temporary color, and then with permanent color, since I was 25. I am now 60, and my hair is probably 99% white. I color it mostly light brown, with about 10% medium brown mixed in, but it looks dark brown. I use Clairol “Professional” color, but I’ve used Wella and used Preference for many years. As the color builds up, it gets darker, no matter what color you are using. Even at 45 if I didn’t color my hair for 6 weeks I had quite the skunk stripe. BUT, only recently have my eyebrows started showing up white. It makes me really nervous to think about using color near my eyes!
It’s a different type of color you use for brows. It’s not stinky and only stays on 5 minutes.
I love Helen Mirren’s attitude toward aging.
I’m so late contributing to this thread but I’ve been enjoying it from a covid funk. Finally somewhat back to myself.
Firstly, everyone should do what makes them most comfortable. No judgement!
My much-belated thoughts on fashion choices that could possibly age you:
Too much makeup
Too thin penciled eyebrows (agree eyebrows can be tough)
Longer nails with certain polish choices (bright, frosted,…)
Hair dyed so dark it’s obviously not natural
Hair that’s too “perfect”, teased, hairsprayed
Lots of matchy matchy jewelry
Baggy capris, elastic waistbands
Leggings worn under a dress (there are exceptions to this)
My core friend group ranges about 10 years and I’m the oldest, but we all dress pretty much the same. For daily life I’m typically in athleisure but I do dress when I’m out or on work calls. However, my style is fairly casual and classic… skinny cropped jeans/pants with tops that fit but aren’t tight, casual dresses, blazers. Lots of neutrals but maybe a statement purse. I shop anywhere from athleta to anthropology to j crew to target and tjmaxx. I fell in love with Columbia freezer dress III last year and must have five of those… comfortable and can be dressed up or down. I’m short so I’m as often in wedge sandals/boots as Birkenstocks.
I’ve highlighted my hair since my 20s when I stopped spending summers at the beach to get it naturally. My natural color now is a dirty blond but I feel better with some natural looking blonder highlights. My mom is almost 80, brunette with minimal gray and so far it seems I have those genes as no gray yet.
I do wear light makeup when out… tinted moisturizer, concealer, bronzer, mascara on upper lashes… but not if I have a day at home.
I think in my enthusiasm at finally feeling better, I’ve conflated the two fashion related threads!!
