My son will enter 9th grade with 7 HS credits if all goes as expected...Algebra 1 honors, Geometry honors, Freshman English 1 honors, Physical science honors, Biology honors for core and Spanish 1 and Computer for World language and elective. At that rate he will have finished all his classes including AP courses by 11th grade....then what? He doesn't want to graduate early and would like to stay for his senior year for friends and sports. What happens after his junior year? Does he have to graduate? What would he take senior year? Would colleges look favorably or unfavorably at his curriculum? Thanks.

Senior Year is supposed to be the easy year so I would try to fill it up with electives and stuff of that sort.

And fun things.

Could he take classes at a local college through a dual-enrollment program?

The same thing happened to me as your son. I finished all my requirements my junior year but didn’t want to graduate early due to involvement in school activities. My senior year I decided to take a new foreign language course and dual enrollment courses at my town’s local community college. Also,I decided that learning computer programming would be fun as a hobby. I suggest doing anything productive with his schedule. If not, at least he can focus more on sports.

As the previous posters commented, he can also take easier electives if he wants to but that all depends on him. My parents didn’t allow me that opportunity but by taking courses at a community college, I’m now ahead as a freshman entering college this fall and I don’t have to worry about taking general requirements.

As for colleges it all depends on which one he wants to attend. Once school starts you can probably contact his counselor or the college. Most colleges are very friendly when it comes to questions like that. As for being forced to graduate, I don’t think schools are allowed to do that without parental permission.
