Favorite Name for the University

Berkeley has the most amount of names or nicknames of any university that I can think of (for example, Cal, UCBerkeley, Berkeley, California, University of California, University of California at Berkeley, etc.). What is your favorite and why?

Mine is simply Berkeley. It's to the point and is the most recognizable.

Berkeley.

I can't bring myself to say Cal, I feel like I'm trying way too hard.

I like to say "Berkeley"
...but then everyone goes, "OH! I know someone who went there for music, but they didn't like Massachusetts much."
And then I correct them and say, "Berkeley the crazy-liberal-hippie school, not Berklee, the music one."

Living in MD, and possibly going to BERKELEY, just plain sucks.

Saying "Cal" just sounds weird to me, but nevertheless, I say it from time to time.

I switch between "Cal" and "Berkeley." I only use "UC Berkeley" if I'm applying to a scholarship or something and they ask for names of schools I applied to.

i generally always say berkeley. i only use cal when i refer to the athletics.

I say UC Berkeley when I'm talking to Bay Area locals. I say "Cal" when talking to people from out of state.

Berzerkley.

"The Farthest Left University EVUR!!!!" is also fairly well-known OOS. :D

UCB (University of Competitive Bastards)

I use both interchangeably. Many people confuse Cal with Cal-Poly or one of the Cal State University schools though.

Berkeley .

sean: Is Berkeley really that competitive? (Once you're actually attending, I mean. It's one hell of a fight to get in...)

Getting into Berkeley isn't that difficult. The school accepts ~25% of the applicants. And even if you don't get in as a freshman, you can always take the easy route by transferring from a CC.

On the other hand, getting out of Berkeley with a high GPA in the sciences is the complete opposite.

how high is a high GPA in science?

"Science" is too vague. I've seen websites that claim EPS average GPA is around 3.4 whereas CS is anywhere from 2.7-2.9.

I use Bezerkeley often, but I almost always say Cal in general conversation. Bezerkeley often comes up during midterm season/finals.

Ok, I see a 25% chance as difficult.

Ya, I already said my piece on the thread subject.

How many times have you told someone you go to or went to "Cal" and there is that awkward silence while they give you the look as they think "ummm... you mean Cal Poly Pomona? Cal State something? Caltech? Cal??"

Then you clarify and say... Berkeley! Then they say... oh! Cal Berkeley! or Cal State Berkeley! (doh!)

If people know college sports they should recognize "Cal" as Berkeley. I've never had that happen, btw.
