Fear Haas

I want to transfer to Haas but the problem is that even if I have outstanding grades, I still won't be qualified (I just read some Russian guy's Stats and I doubt I can find that much to do)

So I was wondering if I did business for Berkeley would Haas be my only choice?

Also if Hass denied me would I still be able to get into Berkeley with all these Business classes I took.

To be honest I would consider changing my major (Because Im partially Undecided) to something that can get me into Berkeley with more ease from Community college.

Also I want to end up at Harvard so is there any good paying major that I can attend at Harvard?

My main goal is to get into Harvard and the main choices I see is Law, Medical (from UCLA maybe?), and Business.

Please help!

You seem confused to what you really want to do. The first thing you need to do is to find out which field you want to go in..and not because it pays good. I've had friends here at UCLA who went to continue to Med School and its really really tough..it can't be about the money at most times.

Make sure you get good grades still. Yes, there's a lot of people who gets denied at Haas but there are those people who do get in. It's a matter of being a well-rounded person. Good grades, good ECs and sometimes work experience counts a lot (especially in business school - I know somebody who got in to Anderson UCLA because of her work experience and not her grades nor GMAT scores). You have to find the area where you're good at and where you'll shine. It's like this - it's tougher going to med school with a Science major since the adcom will need to compare you with every science major undergrads...anyway, you get the idea.

So...don't be so pessimistic about it. =)

do econ or industrial engineering

"So I was wondering if I did business for Berkeley would Haas be my only choice?"

There is only one business school at Berkeley, so yes, Haas would be your only choice.

"Also if Hass denied me would I still be able to get into Berkeley with all these Business classes I took."

Haas denying you admission is the same as Berkeley denying you admission. So no, you will not be able to get into Berkeley.

"Also I want to end up at Harvard so is there any good paying major that I can attend at Harvard?
My main goal is to get into Harvard and the main choices I see is Law, Medical (from UCLA maybe?), and Business."

Then why don't you just apply to Harvard? Just make up your mind. These three career paths that you have listed are very different.

the first thing you need to do is to find what you want to major in. or may be 2 similar majors like business or econ. after that, you can start picking schools, and please do not consider harvard, yale, stanford or those kinda schools because the chance for you to get in there is very low out of ccc. be realistic and choose schools that you think you can transfer to out of ccc. UCB, UCSD, UCLA and USC are realistic picks. Consider some out of state schools like Emory or UT Austin.

and there is such thing as good-paying major. major is only as good as what you make out of it.

do what you want

clear up ur priorities and get a goal and STICK WITH IT

u sound like your environment is influencing you rather than you gaining control of what you really want

you obviously haven't spoken to an transfer adviser at your CC

oh yea don't rely on your counselors cause they may be misleading. avoid all possible risks

not if u know which ones know what they are talking about.
well this forum is not built on miracles but by people who've done a ton of research and Q&A with faculty u know

law, medical, and business?

why don't you decide on what you want to do before you babble on about going to harvard.

+1 on hotelcalifornia
oh moscow =D

hotelmoscow, Im trying to decide but I looking at it as if Haas is hard on transfers I don't want to make the mistake and working two years for it and end up no where.

i suggest u take general ed classes first while u think about it.

AdamantineX, You said go into Econ, Berkeley has that as a transfer choice, does that go into Haas as well? Do you happen to know?

business = econ?
business = econ?
doesn't look like it
so no its not haas

well, Harvard has closed all transfer admissions for 2008 to 2009 and 2009 to 2010. So unless you're going to apply for Fall 2010 (2010 to 2011), I suggest you take on the UC system and leave the IVY league for graduate school.

Realize that econ/business (whatever you want to call it) isn't the only major in the world that is key for success. Take a subject that you love. Unless you want to go into medicine, I suggest that you don't worry too much about your major becoming your future profession.

Also, be realistic. None of us here are in the position to tell you what you can or can't do. I suggest you take into consideration your dreams, passion AND what you can accomplish. I know way too many people that love the idea of becoming a doctor, but they can't pass basic college chemistry. Being realistic is a good plan on getting out of CCC quickly and transferring in 2 years.

You've got a lot of think to do, of course. But keep in mind that many people say, "I can do it, I know I can." and take on a mountain of course work, such as Physics, Chem, English 101, and Bio (all but one are 5 unit courses). Give yourself some time to ease in, don't jump in feet first. It's always a bit harder than you expected. Good luck!

I am pretty sure you read my stats in my other thread, don't let something like that hold you back. As everyone else has mentioned, make sure you choice a career path that interests you. Berkeley is an excellent school, if your interested in Business and are dying to be a student at CAL, I would say apply to Berkeley Economics. I actually have a friend who applied from CC to Berkeley economics last Fall 07. He has good grades but doesn't have much EC activities, never the less he has a decent shot. Goodluck, send me PM if you have any questions.

nah in my opinion he just wants the prestige.
look at the trends of his choices.
i highly doubt he would go for econ since it is not part of haas

he's just wandering aimlessly not knowing what to do exactly.

I fear Haas too.... I have a ton of business related experience, non-profit leadership, a 4.0 taking the max course load at my CCC and am afraid to apply to Haas. It is extremely selective.

Plus I have decided I want to study Econ during undergrad and go to a graduate level business program.

It is your life. Think about what you want to do, create a plan, follow it. If you give it 100% you will have less regrets.

i said that because i thought u are interested in business but apprently you are just looking for something that is high paying. There are several majors that are very closely related to business like econ or management science.
