Am I the only one who didn’t get a lot of No Change on English? I got a 33 on English in December so I don’t know if I should be worried
I thought that in difficulty, it went (from easiest to hardest): reading, science, math, english. Almost ran out of time on english, so I had to rush through the last two passages. Don’t remember much from that. Math was weird with the compound interest question and the last few were particularly difficult, though I don’t think I missed that much. Reading and science were a breeze this time around with only the science tripping me up with around 2 questions, one on passage 3 and one on the scientists one.
My predictions:
-4/5 English (31-32)
-1 Math (36?)
-1 Reading (35)
-2/3 Science (33)
Expecting a 34, with worst possible case (31/35/35/33)
My prediction:
Worst:
E: -4 (33)
M: -2 (35)
R: -3 (33)
S: -7 (ran out of time) (29)
C: 33
Best:
E: -2 (35)
M: -0 (36)
R: -2 (34)
S: -5 (31)
C: 34
I got a 33 in October so i’m hoping for a 34 or higher
In order of difficulty starting with easiest:
Math, english, reading, science
Reading is normally my worst subject but i thought it was very easy this time… Maybe ap lang has helped??
I got a lot of no change too
Got a 34.5 in June, decided to go gun-ho for the 36. Although I have yet to confirm that I missed a question, this was definitely NOT the test to shoot for the perfect score.
Usually, I finish English with a good amount of time (10+ minutes) to spare. Although the questions weren’t particularly difficult, it was definitely a time-consuming, not grammar based (aka, true standardized “English”) test. Found myself rushing, which is probably the number one way to guarantee stupid mistakes. Math is usually the score that brings me up, but there were a lot of iffy questions near the end that I found myself having to find unconventional and time-consuming methods to solve. Didn’t have time to check over the questions in the beginning of the test where I could have easily made a miscalculation. Definitely nervous, and praying for a nice curve.
What really surprised me was that although Reading is almost always my worst, it was the only test that I felt like was “normal” on this ACT. Questions almost always had a clear answer, even though they did require going back to the text A LOT. Didn’t have much extra time for leeway, but one can expect that with every Reading section.
Science was just all over the place. Some passages were easy and didn’t require actually reading at all, whereas some passages required not only being able to pinpoint every little minuscule detail from the passage, but also UNDERSTAND these details and apply them to completely out-there assumptions. Disgusting, time consuming, all in all a gross science section. Essay wasn’t bad. Not the most open-ended and easiest prompt to draw examples from, but not terrible.
Does anyone else feel as if the Reading was unusually easy and the English and Science were just flat-up strange, not traditional ACT-style?
I agree with you that I thought Science was just like… um… what??
I seem to be the only who thought English was like usual.
My thoughts: English was as usual
Math harder than usual (especially towards the end) (I ALWAYS have gotten 36’s and I already know I got 2 wrong…)
Reading HARDEST for me… I guess its because Reading is always my worst by a lot… but I was shocked by the new passage style and it threw me off and I wasted way to much time on it. And that made me end up not having time to finish the last passage. Maybe If I had time I would have been fine.
Science also very hard. The new timing threw me off so I didn’t end up finishing! Had to rush the last 3 questions (Already know I got 2 of them wrong) And science is usually a 35/34 for me…
Ugh…
Edit: @ayraify
Anyone else getting annoyed that ACT has been changing things a lot lately? My guess is they are trying to keep up with the new SAT format coming out in 2016 but I mean come one it’s just hurting us. English was all over the place with a lot of no changes and had a lot more “english” questions requiring you to read long sentences and wasn’t just the little grammar problems. Math had some tricky ones. They switched up the compound interest question that they usually have. Reading seemed pretty standard though although I still was really rushed on the last passage. Science don’t even get me started! The format was completely different then any other test I’ve taken. No simple 5 question “charts and graphs” questions, but instead they added more dueling scientists and had longer passages. I’m very frustrated with what ACT has been doing lately. Does anyone have a similar viewpoint with me with any of these issues?
I’m noticing that people say different sections were hard to them. Hopefully this will mean a good curve for all of us. As I was taking the ACT this time, I thought math and English were probably the most difficult. Science was not too bad, however it was completely different. I remeber combing through the questions trying to find the 7 question passage, which I do last, and realizing there were 3 or 4 seven question passages. Science definitely required more prior knowledge this time. As for math and science I already know I missed 2 in English and 1 in math, not including silly mistakes. So here’s to a good curve for all of us. Good luck everyone!
I’m just really mad because I struggled time-wise on my best subjects (science and math). I started to run out of time on science. I finished the second to last passage thinking I’m almost done. Turn the page and there’s a massive wall of text. Shit… Am I the only one who thought reading wasn’t bad?
Maybe this was just me, but many of the English/Reading passages were super entertaining to me! F I applaud the ACT test makers for those great passages. It’s amazing how much better I can do when I actually am into what I am reading.
And wow, my essay was utterly awful. I can’t believe how shallow some of my arguments were. Hopefully I’ll get an 8, but I think a 10’s out of the picture even though I got one last time
fingers crossed for a 36 and a nice curve to all!
Given the weirdness of the english section, which many people claim, is it possible that -3 could be a 35/34? Thanks!
Can someone estimate me
E -3
M -10
R -4
S -7
@tdallege I completely agree with you on how amazing the passages were! However this caused me to get into fun reading mode where I slowed down to really analyze and understand the passages, and that caused me to have difficulty with timing causing me to use my “letter of the day”. I am usually a slow reader, but on the tests I try to read very fast because in the end I don’t care about the topic more than my score, but that did not work on this test.
@bellavisto : completely agree with you that Reading was not bad whatsoever. and @tdallege , completely agreed! there was not a single terrible passage where I had to force myself to slow down of have an “um, what?” moment on the English/Reading. Science, on the other hand…
Is a lot of no change around 20? Bc that’s how many I got.
@tdallege Those passages made me want to kill myself, but it’s cool that they entertained someone

Why does the ACT just randomly go, SURPRISE, we changed the layout. The one thing I prefer with the SAT is that you get consistency and reliability. The ACT is like a female elephant during ovulation, extremely unpredictable. <<<

No real surprise here considering the typical tests brought by the Iowa boys. From the ERB to the PLAN to the ACT, everything is based on convincing clueless admins to adopt the tests. The ACT will always remain the poor cousin!
TURNUPP for the SAT… Really hope there’s gonna be a good curve but I highly doubt it.
Can somebody estimate me please?
