FEBRUARY 2015 ACT DISCUSSION THREAD

@collegemom2son I posted the curves for the December test in the ACT preparation thread… That math curve was fairly strict.

Wait, why did our supervisor say 5-8 weeks? Are you sure its February 17th?

@bellavisto‌
most people should receive their scores online within two weeks (probably tuesday the 17th). i think the 5-8 weeks is either for colleges or how long it should take for you to receive them in the mail

I think its 2 weeks for mc and 5-8 weeks for writing.

Last time my son got his score in ten days and his essay score seven days later.

Am I dumb or was the science extremely easy up to the last two passages? I guessed on most of those last two. Everything else I felt good about.

I thought reading this time was extremely easy…I finished with about 5 minutes to spare.
English I usualy finish with 10 minutes left, but this time I only had a couple…so definitely harder than usual.
Math, I guessed on the last 10 questions or so. But the ones I did answer, I felt confident about, so I thought it was kinda easy maybe?? N then science… I feel pretty good about science, I definitely thought it was easier than usual.
I thought the writing prompt was super awful compared to the Dec. one.
On the Dec. test, I got a 34 English, 31 Reading, 25 Science, and 24 math (yikes!) 29 composite. So hopefully my score will be going up…

How many thought math was more difficult that usual with everything else being relative normal? I’m in IB higher math and still had to guess on 3 or so…

I feel really good about everything except Math

I felt confident on math and science as those are my strengths, however I am not very good at English or reading ( @sarajessica it seems we are opposites). I really liked the writing prompt and I cant wait to see my scores on that. One weird thing that happened is I think it was on the second reading passage, and it was familiar to me. I cant remember from where, but I remembered it from something.

MODERATOR’S NOTE: DON’T DISCUSS QUESTIONS!! I just deleted two posts for this reason.

Oh sorry I did not realize discussing broad topics counted as questions. Sorry

Did anyone find the Reading section extremely difficult time wise? I had to skim through the last to passages :frowning:

Two*

@0br0123‌ Me! I thought it was so much harder than all of the practice tests! I had to skim the last passage and guess on the last 4 :frowning:

I was also so thrown off by the numbering change in Science and I didn’t finish and had to guess on the last 2. Ugh

I usually get 34’s in Science and now I’m so worried…

@jetynz‌ I agree! I’m also really god at science but the electricity passage threw me way off. ( I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that, oh well)

@0br0123‌ Im really upset because the last passage was literally made for me because it was such basic chem and If I literally had 2 more minutes I would have gotten them all right.

Reading is never my best but I thought it was particularly hard this time.

I also thought math was hard… what even… I have consistently gotten 34’s on practice ACTs (official ACT ones) and now I don’t know what to expect

Why does the ACT just randomly go, SURPRISE, we changed the layout. The one thing I prefer with the SAT is that you get consistency and reliability. The ACT is like a female elephant during ovulation, extremely unpredictable.

God I just want my score

October 2014 ACT
English: 30
Math: 36
Reading: 28
Science: 31
Essay: 12
Opinions:
English: Wasn’t necessarily difficult, but extremely time-consuming. Lots of no change, especially towards beginning. I felt there was a larger number of non-grammar questions, leading to the lack of time towards end. Unsure of what curve would be and if I even improved. My score: 29-31, but really ???
Math: Harder than usual. I saw the law of sines(I forgot about how to answer this question until afterwards) and compound interest tested in a different way from normal(tested your knowledge of the formula instead of calculating something compound a few times). Other than that pretty standard. Curve will be -1, small chance of -2. My score: 35
Reading: Fairly easy. I actually read most of the passage before beginning to answer instead of doing a light skim and I think it paid off. Curve: -1 = 35 My score: 30-32
Science: Easy, changed format again?? Was there only 6 passages? Can’t remember. Harsh curve. Curve -1 =34
Essay topic was standard, but I still didn’t like it. Still believe I will earn a 12 because >3 pages + 6 paragraph format = 12
I’m still annoyed at how the ACT seems to be changing significantly this year(more reasoning type english questions, dual passages, new math topics, changing up science), yet they will not give out an updated red book.
I apologize for the lengthy post.
Good luck to everyone.
