February On Campus MT Audition

I just got an academic acceptance to BSU and am scheduled to audition for MT on campus in February. I am really excited for the audition:) I also want to look around the campus and Muncie, too. Do you know if they have campus tours on the audition day (afternoon- after MT auditions)? What is an on campus audition day like? Also, are there any BSU musical/drama shows going on in mid Feb.? I think it would be fun to see a show if possible.

hello luvzthe8r im currently an mt here at ball state.

unfortunately i dont believe there are any afternoon campus tours on saturdays, however auditions are very thorough and time consuming and you will likely be exhausted by the end of it. You will still get a pretty good feel for the school though and how things work in the department of theatre and dance.
if you are coming on the eleventh then “the drowsy chaperone” (which sutton foster helped to direct and cast (oh my god coolest thing ever)) is being put on at 7:30 in university theatre. if you are coming on the 25th, then there will be a production of “six characters in search of an author” at 7:30 in the strother studio theatre. both of these shows will be awesome and i highly recommend you see them.

hope this helps.

MTmaniac -

I’ll be up on the 11th so, “The Drowsy Chaperone” it is. Really excited to see this show!!! Are you in it?

Yes, saw a link for campus tours and it says M - F. Since we don’t get in until Friday evening, that doesn’t work. I think my parents were hoping to take a tour of the campus or something while I audition.

Can’t believe the audition is less than 4 weeks away =) Thanks for taking time to answer my questions.

lvuzthe8r,

My d successfully auditioned into Ball State’s BFA in MT last year (and now is a student there). From a parent’s perspective, I remember that current students were available throughout the day, and were helpful in answering questions. In the morning, kids and parents were together through a short departmental meeting and demo by current students, then when the prospectives were whisked away to get to work, there was a Q & A for parents (and we asked lots of hard questions, which the students handled well!) and time to relax. As a parent, I think yours can feel free to ask any of the students if they have time to do a quick walkaround of the theatre buildings or even campus with them (I always found those more informative to an MT prospect than the packaged “look at our [insert cool science building here]” tours.)

I would also recommend that you and your family find time for a meal on campus (Woodworth dining hall is the closest to the theatre departments, I believe). The food is impressive (my d is still happy with the choices…and she’s a picky vegetarian) and they are welcoming of anyone who wishes to come to eat there. It’s quite affordable, too and you can get sort of a feel for “what if I came here?”

Good luck on your audition(s). PM me if you have further questions.

Congrats to your D Mommafrog =D I have heard great things about BSU and am really looking forward to seeing their program and auditioning. Now I can give my parents an idea of what to expect, too. Thanks for your input!
