Just Around the Corner

Everyone at Ball State is really excited about everyone auditioning in February on-campus and at Unifieds!

Another student and I are here to help with any questions, nerves, or just to talk about the department, so if you have anything to share, please go for it!

Break a leg, everyone!

My D is auditioning at Unifieds…just wondered about how many students generally audition for your BFA MT program on campus and unifieds total…and usually how large is the Freshman Class.

Do you know if Unifieds are weighted just as if they were auditioning on campus?

There is usually about 600 people auditioning for the performance options (I say ‘performance options’ because there is the Acting option as well, and many audition for both), and 16 are accepted into the Musical Theatre program’s freshman class.

And, yes, students at Unifieds are in no way at a disadvantage from being accepted!

How close are the students from hearing about acceptances to BFA MT program?

momofstar,

Last year, my d auditioned for Ball State at their first on-campus audition (I think this was in November). She received a call from Bill Jenkins the Sunday night after the final Saturday of auditions. A letter followed by US Mail soon after. Not sure if that was their pattern for every person accepted last year, but I am pretty sure that BSU waits until they’ve seen everyone before making their offers. Good luck to your kiddo. It it hard to wait.

I think they said calls would be made to accepted and wait-listed students the first week or two after the Feb. 25th audition (which is their last on-campus audition). Everyone else will receive a letter in the mail.

Not sure if she just got it because she hadn’t yet submitted an application or what. It’s pretty vague, but we are assuming it is similar to CCM’s “On Hold” status.

Dear Prospective BFA student at Ball State University,

The faculty and staff at Ball State would like to congratulate you on your audition for our program. Based on that audition, you are among the students being considered by the faculty for the BFA Musical Theatre or Acting Programs of the Theatre & Dance Department at Ball State University. Within the next few weeks we will be in contact with you again as we get closer to final decisions. In the meantime, if there is any change of status on your end as you progress in your college selection process, please feel free to let us know.

If I neglected to ask you about your status regarding an acceptance letter from the University and you have not yet received one please contact me so that I can help expedite that essential process. In addition, if you have yet to apply to the University, please do do immediately. Only those students who have applied to Ball State will be considered for the BFA programs.

Once again, congratulations on a fine job. While choosing a college is not an easy task, we are pleased to know that you consider Ball State among those that may be the best fit for you.

Best Regards

Peter Zapp

tracyvp- the email that your daughter received says that she is being considered for the BFA program here. It is pretty similar to CCM’s “On Hold”, and this is just to inform your family that you should keep your eyes peeled for a phone call or letter soon.

momofstar- Letters and phone calls will be sent to prospective students as soon as possible after the February 25th audition.

Does this clear things up? I know the wait can be so confusing at times!

Thanks for the updates, Taylor! This waiting is so darned hard! It’s nice to have some idea what to expect.

Taylor…thank you so much for responding. My D also got the email and has been accepted academically already…so we are just waiting…and breathing and waiting…what a journey!!

Hi Taylor,

I just got a phone call with an acceptance to the acting program. I am excited but I am also a little bit confused. Does this mean I am no longer being considered for the musical theatre program?

Thank you!!

Hi omgyayay!

This is Bill Jenkins and I am the Chair of the Theatre and Dance Department at Ball State. To answer your question, the acting and musical theatre faculty meet separately to decide admittance into the programs. This year approximately 600 students auditioned in total for BFA Acting and MT programs. If you received an acceptance into the Acting program, it means that you did not make the initial list of MT acceptances. You may however, still be on the waiting list. These calls will be made by March 15th.

Hope this info helps. Feel free to send me a PM if you have any more questions. Congrats again to you on your acceptance!

Thank you very much Mr. Jenkins I understand now!

So if you did not receive that “On Hold” e-mail, you’re no longer being considered for a spot?

I saw on other posts that people had received calls on the 26th notifying them of their acceptance. If you haven’t received a call, is that a rejection?

Futurereno,

We have made initial calls but have not yet contacted our waiting list. These calls will be made early next week. I hope this info helps!

Thanks,
Bill
