I submitted my SAT, SAT Subject tests, and AP Exam scores to Rice this week, and just got a letter thanking me for submitting scores. It then says I received a fee waiver for my outstanding performance on my SAT subject tests. (750 Biology M, 720 Math 2, and 710 US History). Is this because I’m a New York Applicant and the want more applicants from this region? Or did they really offer me a fee waiver for performance? My SAT Subject Tests are Okay, but outstanding isn’t exactly the right word. Any opinions?
Congrats on the fee waiver! Maybe Rice considers all SATII scores above 700 as “outstanding”?
On another note, I am curious why you submitted your AP scores now. Aren’t we supposed to wait until we make a final decision on which college we will attend? My understanding from reading other CC threads is that AP scores are not used in admission decisions and only for college credit at the school we attend.
@dreambig2018 you are mostly correct regarding AP tests and admissions, but if a student was homeschooled, having a few unbiased national tests that validate your grades might be useful for admissions. For students in school, their self-reported AP scores and official high school transcript serve the same purpose. For my son, we just self-reported his AP scores and his National AP Scholar award.
@psywar Oh, okay, thanks for explaining. That makes sense. I was just starting to worry that I should be submitting my official AP scores (I am including my self-reported AP scores).
I sent mine now because I’ve scored 5’s on all but one test I have taken. Even if they don’t consider them as a part of admissions, the 5’s being on my profile can’t appear as a bad thing. (I’m not sure about Rice specifically, but I know some other schools such as Dartmouth will consider AP scores during admissions.)
