Feedback on potential schedule?!

I am an incoming freshman pol sci major, attending Orientation Session 103. I'm undecided as to an area of concentration within pol sci, and whether I will minor/double major in econ/statistics (basically, I'm undecided about alot of things!) I have completed the following requirements:

Writing I requirement - fullfilled

American History requirement - fullfilled

Quantitative Reasoning Requirement - fullfilled

I intend on taking the foreign language placement exam in french, which I anticipate placing out of - but have an interest in learning Spanish (from the beginning).

So - here are my thoughts on a potential classes for the Fall:

Econ 2 (placed out of Econ1)
Global Enviornment Cluster
Pol Sci 10 or 20
Spanish 1

My questions are as follows:
How many classes should I look at taking?
Should I avoid any of these classes; or are there others that I should consider instead (I'm really focussing on developing a sense of direction with these broad majors)?
Good/Bad professors in each (I've checked out Bruinwalk, but any additional feedback would be helpful)?
How likely is it that I can get in off of a waitlist (Spanish 1)?
I'm in the Honors program - would that affect my choices for the Fall, or should I just worry about that later?

Even us transfer students who are used to taking 18+ units per quarter are strongly advised to take no more than 3 classes in our first quarter at UCLA.

yeah 4 more be a bit too much for first quarter...

If you get into Spanish 1, drop the cluster.

Ok - can you expand on that?

Do it. Clusters suck.

Some people love them. If it looks interesting and the profs sound good, why not go for it? But I agree four full classes first quarter is too much (not that I've been there yet). But that's what everyone tells me. :)

From roommates experiences - clusters are only worth it if you're looking for honors credit, since it's a lot of work.

Definitely too many classes for your first fall. Do 3. I don't know crap about any of these classes though, so I can't suggest anything. But find out what the prereqs are for your major(s) and put those on the top of your list. also, a lot of language classes go in order by quarter, meaning span 1 in fall, span 2 in winter, span 3 in spring. Not sure if its ALWAYS this way though. Take that into consideration. I don't think I've met anyone who liked their cluster. Closest thing was bearable, but then again I am terrible at remembering things.

The more popular languages like Spanish offer all 6 lower-division quarters any time of year.

and unfortunately i don't think that any political science classes will be open by the time you get there...they're filled up already. and poli sci 20 isn't even offered this quarter.

so take 3 classes and take it easy your first quarter. enjoy yourself. :)
