Essays Common app: 8/10 About how I am clumsy and used that to find deficiencies in my life to repair, not great but good Other supplements: NYU: 5/10 Uninspired. Talked about my crypto investing, a professor I liked and the liberal arts education there and was well written just pretty standard not risk or clever like some essays
Cornell: 7/10 cleverish and pretty well written

Letters of Rec Teacher: Both good, didn’t read. One about me from bio, other from my physics teacher about how physics and finance correlate

Counselor: Form/10 there are too many kids so the counselor uses a form, but she gave me the highest marks possible on the form

Supplemental Letter of Rec: 10/10 made my parents cry, 600 words from the mom of a kid with disabilities I tutor where the mom happens to be the VP of a local finance company. This letter was so good it raised my hopes for being admitted so much.

Mostly chance me stern by the way that is my number one school and I really want to get in

Also I visited NYU also I don’t know if they take demonstrated interest into account or not

(Another comment disguised at a question but really just to bump my post because it hasn’t gotten any responses.)

Real talk though could someone please chance me for stern please. I’m super stressed and trying to set my expectations. also how much will no subject tests hurt me and a 33 math and a B in Ap calc first semester senior year hurt me

NYU Stern should be a match with your stats. The ACT composite is fine. A 33 won’t make any difference and 1 B in AP Calculus when your grades are mostly As should not make a significant difference.

Had it been a second choice, WashU Olin might have been a target as well.

@Hamurtle Ok thank you. Funny enough I actually did apply to Wash U Olin. Also I heard that stern could never be a match, do you agree with that sentiment. Also 1 other thing if I am not too annoying. Do you know if colleges use weighted or unweighted class rank because my class rank for Weighted would stay the same if I sent my semester grades but my unweighted would drop to 28/500 if I sent them so IDK if I should send them or not.

Generally schools go by the unweighted GPA if both are indicated on your transcript but 28/500 is still around top 10% (ok top 12%) but I wouldn’t stress too much.

My son’s friend got into Stern last year with roughly the same GPA but you have the higher ACT/class rank. Let’s call it a high match.

WashU Olin would be a reach/low reach. It would depend on the demonstrated interest.

You are a competitive applicant for Stern. Your stats are great and your ECs are pretty good

And your grades/test scores will get your application looked at by Cornell. It will still be a reach but not a high reach.

@Hamurtle OK thanks my dude. Sorry if I am being an idiot it is late here but wouldn’t 28/500 be top 5%? ALso would you not send the semester transcript if you were me to not show your B in Calc an your lower class rank, or would you send it so they weren’t suspicious and could see your other A’s and a slight Weighted gpa increase. Thanks for the help again.

@doorrealthe OK thank you for the help.my one concern is Do you know if colleges use weighted or unweighted class rank because my class rank for Weighted would stay the same if I sent my semester grades but my unweighted would drop to 28/500 if I sent them so IDK if I should send them or not. I don’t want them to be suspicious of me not sending them, and I got an A in everything except AP calc AB but I am afraid that could hurt me a ton.

Sorry-you’re right about your rank. Math wasn’t my strong suit even though I was a physics major in college.

I would seriously not stress over the B in AP Calculus. My son got a B- in Calc BC (as a junior) but is now at WashU and got an A in Calc 3 freshman year. And he had the rather ignominious distinction of being an Asian kid who got a 5 on the BC test with a 4 on the AB subscore. You’ll do fine.

You have the class rigor and you should go send all transcripts as required. Especially if the schools request a progress report. That B won’t make or break your application.

I wouldn’t be shocked if you got into one of your reach schools. Enjoy the rest of your senior year and I am positive you’ll get into a good school.

@Hamurtle Ok thanks again, I am done bugging you now. I am just going to send the report and try to forget it. I am just super worried about everything now because I got rejected UPenn so it is making me second guess alot.

OH an one final thing regarding this. People claim that NYU is somewhat greedy and wants people who can pay. I applied for fin aid but I live in one of the wealthiest districts in America, will that help me.

It probably won’t affect you.

I’d send your unweighted grades if the school recommends that you send them
