I think you have a good chance
@vwnyu22 Should I change to ED 2 or do I have a solid chance RD
Well, consider applying ED2 if all of the following apply:
- Your parents are willing to pay full price, or nearly so, at NYU.
- You don't care about comparing offers from multiple schools that admit you RD.
- NYU is now your clear #1.
If you aren’t sure about any of those, I would advise against it.
And – yes, with your stats I would think you’d be (at least) a match for RD at Stern (40-60% chance), as long as you have good recs and write compelling essays that show who you are and how you can make NYU better. NYU might not be as holistic as Stanford, but I’m pretty sure they do value the qualitative aspects of the app to some degree.
nyu is beneath you… i hope you applied to top tier schools instead
@citygirl12 Why do you say that? For finance NYU is a solid target and I really like New York. Most of the ivies tie with Stern for placemwnt so why wouldn’t I just do Stern
@prezbucky I think I switched over to ED 2 today, I am just waiting for the confirmation. Thank you for the help and I really hope you are right about ti being a match because after watching some videos I really want to go there.
@daththiccboi - @citygirl12 is a current NYU student looking to transfer (based on her only other post)… so she may be looking at things from the negative. And I will say, NYU is not for everyone. My D is a senior there and has LOVED every minute. Looking back I WISH we had done ED- D always loved the school, but her dad and I wanted her to see her full range of options. Given that RD at NYU is always a late notification - we were biting our nails til the very end of March - and we could have been done WAY sooner
Best of luck to you!!
You have excellent stats and strong ECs – I think you have a very good chance of getting into NYU .Good luck and let us know how things work out for you!
@xanthippe @toowonderful Thanks for the help. I really hope you guys are right and thanks for the advice. the only problem is I just realized my supplemental is just awful, I am going to post it below and if you feel like it let me know if that changes whether or not you think I will get in.
I spent the first three years of high school being undecided. I was good at math so I thought I should be an engineer. I was good at science so I thought I should be a doctor. It wasn’t until the summer after my junior year that an unexpected gift gave me the direction I needed. My uncle gave me a book called Lessons for the Young Economist and from the moment I read it I was hooked. I knew that my real passion was for finance. So I did my due diligence and searched for the best finance schools in the country. Every list on every site had the Stern School of Business ranked near the very top and upon further investigation I learned that it was a highly regarded by the best investment banks in the world, many of which are just a cab ride away from NYU. While NYU exceeded my expectations for education and reputation there was still one problem: I had never been to New York City. As a child I spent a lot of time in Chicago so I knew what big cities felt like, but this was the Big Apple and if you ask a hundred people you will get a hundred different opinions. So I visited NYU in the fall and I was finally in a position to form my own opinions and pass my own judgments. I fell in love with New York. In the short time I was there, we saw the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Times Square and Central Park; all of which were amazing. But we also spent time away from the tourist sites as we ate in restaurants that were off the beaten path, rode the subway and talked to the people of New York. The already amazing experience was punctuated with a campus visit. What I learned on my visit is that NYU is unique in that it has all the vibrancy of the big city but still maintains the sense of community that one expects from a university. I am very pleased to know that NYU not only meets but exceeds my expectations in every category. From the world class business school to the amazing city, NYU is a school where I know that could thrive and truly make a difference.
Can you change it? Or has it already been submitted?
@toowonderful Already submitted… which sucks. But on the plus side I switched from RD to ED2 so even if the essay doesn’t show it, they can’t argue I’m not interested in NYU
Indeed. What will be will be… good luck to you!!
