so I finally decided to make an account after stalking this site for so long.

I am so discouraged about all of these college results, and I feel really lost. I need advice. I thought I had decent stats, but I was just rejected from nearly every school I applied to.

Some of my basic info:
-really good public school in Boston area
-3.9 GPA
-2330 SAT (800W, 800CR, 720M)
-original research at university in chicago area with lots of awards
-great ec's

don't want to go into too much detail, but basically I thought I would get accepted some places I didn't. So far:

UChicago: deferred-->rejected
Northwestern: rejected
Emory: rejected
Barnard: rejected
Rice: rejected
Duke: rejected
MIT: rejected
Swarthmore: rejected
Oxford college of Emory: accepted
GWU: accepted (honors)
St andrews (scotland): accepted (honors)

I know that MIT, Rice, Swarthmore, and UChi were unlikely. But I really thought I'd had a decent shot at Barnard and Emory, and I was expecting to at least get waitlisted.

tbh, UChicago was my top choice, followed closely by Barnard. I really thought I was qualified for Barnard, and I'm devastated that I didn't get in there. I should have ED'd. I guess I just want some advice about where to go from here...Oxford of Emory, St andrews, or GWU? I want to study chemistry, and I essentially just want a place where students are excited about learning and aren't partying 24/7. Help! I can't shake the sting of these constant rejections.

If you are not satisfied with your chances, some of the [Association of Independent Technological Universities: AITU](http://theaitu.org) schools have good chemistry programs and rolling admissions.

I disagree with the posters who recommended Oxford. From what I can ascertain, you probably wouldn’t like Oxford if your top choices were Barnard and UChicago. Oxford is a very small, rural LAC and someone who wanted a larger school (or at least one right next to a major university) would likely feel stifled by the environment. Btw, I’m a current student, so I have far more experience with the school than any of the other posters on this thread.

Assuming that GWU is affordable, I recommend you seriously consider it. The honors program will likely allow you to connect with many of your intellectual peers, and many non honors students will impress you with how passionate they are about learning.

If you can afford it and don’t like your current choices, take a look at the list of colleges that still have openings due to lower yield or whatever. It should be coming out this spring and there are usually a couple of gems on there that you could consider besides the options you already have.

Your three acceptances are decent schools IMO. They all have difference “fits” to them, so visit if you can (these plus any you might add) and pick the choice that feels more at home to you.

Then, don’t look back… no matter what, enjoy your experience where you go. You can end up anywhere from college IF you don’t take on a pessimist “woe is me” persona (NOT saying you have one now - I can understand the disappointment - just move on from it).

If you can swing it, try to visit the schools once more for accepted students day (at least for the two US schools). With an acceptance in hand, you will look at the school through different eyes and can really think about if you can picture yourself in that environment.

Ouchies. But you’ll be fine. You obviously have intelligence and a good work ethic. Whatever went wrong before is past history, and you still have some good choices. Pick one, move on, and be happy. Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I think I’m probably going to go with GWU because of the urban environment. I’m trying not to be pessimistic but it’s hard atm!
