Right now I feel like crap. I just woke up out of sleep to check the decision and say that I was REJECTED. I thought that I would have at least been deferred since Emory is a match school for me and I was apply ED without financial aid. Oh, well. Time to move on. Got to apply to Georgetown, UVA, UPENN, Wash U, Indiana.

stevenjm, do you mind posting your stats. Thank you.

What do u guys think? Am I hopeless? I thought I could get into Emory Ed, or at least deferred, but REJECTED? Come on. I also thought I showed plenty of interest in the school. Right now I am deeply depressed. Of 2 community college for me it seems.

eeeh, I meant 2160 SAT if that matters

how in the world did you get rejected. Or did you ... plagiarize other's essays?

steven: check out the other thread....

yeah i read about this in the other thread too. you seem to be an anomoly. There must have been something in your app that wasn't quite right. Teacher recs? Did you come off as conceited? I just don't know... looks like you were a great match. I'm so sorry

Is anyone who got denied applying to Oxford?

I'm so hurt that I got rejected:

My stats are 3.83 gpa and 25 ACT

However, I had a major gastrointestinal illness that caused me to undergo over 35 procedures and surgeries. I spent so much time at the doctors, hospital, testing. Since my illness affected me, I finished my high school 50% by physically attending high school and 50% through independent study programs.

My illness affected my ability in testing. My freshmen grades were bad because of my health, otherwise I did well.

My health didn't allow me to take too many AP courses. However, I did try my best.

However, I feel my extracurriculars were great.

My recs. were great. My teachers showed them to me, and they all said best student encountered in career, and also gave detailed examples as to why I should be accepted.

What went wrong? Any suggestions/feedback?

Milanc, I would consider you lucky that you got rejected. I believe that you will be able to get into a MUCH better school than Emory. Those are amazing ECs. Your ACT is a low however, maybe you should try again to see if you can bring it up to the 29 range.

Calvin: Thanks for your post. Your comment for getting into a better school really motivated me!

I have taken the ACTs several times. But, my health has made it difficult to get past the 25 mark. I have explained all this in an attached letter with Emory.

Do you have any suggestions for any other schools I should apply to?

BTW, I was recently named as the State Chairman for Students for Mitt Romney.

I find my rejection so unfair that I am ready to write a letter to the Dean of Admissions.

I don't mean to sound mean or with sour grapes, but it's just unfair.

Milanc, I think you need to look at yourself in a mirror.

Is this the attitude you had when you were hospitalized? Did you scream at God, or whoever for making your life unfair? Did you point fingers and blame other people for your short comings? No. You fought hard to do well in school, to try to get through those ACTs and to participate in so many ECs. If what we've seen from you so far from your posts reflects who you are, then no one would be surprised you were denied. An attitude that it is "unfair" is not what colleges want. They want someone who will accept their failures and move on, making things better in the future. I know this isn't true for you, considering how you made it through all your struggles in life - valiantly.

Get off the computer for a while. Log off of CC, away from college apps, financial aid websites, homework or studying for finals. Do something that you enjoy, even if its a complete waste of time. And then remember how you fought so hard to get to where you are now. Theres no point in keeping a strong chin all your life if you give up in the end.

Calvin:
Thanks for your post. I was just temporarily upset about what happened. I am never like this. It was just a big disappointment that I need to get over. You are right. I just need time off and think a little. Thanks.

BTW:

For the future, any suggestions for other universities? Would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

BTW Calvin:
What my attitude is now is to examine what went wrong, try to make improvements, and then apply to other places.

Milanc18: Re evaluation is exactly what you need to be doing. You should also confer with your school's counselor (or perhaps engage a college selection counselor) to offer you realistic guidance.

My school counselor can't really help me too much. I do plan on talking to find a college counselor and talk to them.

Just curious, Milanc18, but what about your illness would cause you to not be able to get past 25 ACT? It's a fairly straight forward test, and unfortunately, a student who scored at that level is probably less likely to succeed at Emory. If there was a problem sitting for long periods of time, I'd imagine there are provisions that could have been made in testing. However, if it was a matter of not knowing the answers, I'm not sure you can blame sickness on it.

Also, as unfortunate as it is, an illness that makes you unable to take 3 hr tests would be debilitating enough that you'd be unable to function in an Emory classroom setting to your potential. It sucks, but Emory just can't admit you because you've had an unfair hand.

I think you were rejected because Emory hates Mitt Romney. Sorry.
