Feeling Pretty Lost Right About Now...

My unweighted GPA is a 3.3 with a low SAT score to back it up.. Chances are I probably won't end up going to a UC though I really aspire to seeing that I want to go to medical school sometime in the future. As of now, I'm studying for both the SAT and ACT which I will be taking about a month from now. In addition, I completed my UC application with the exception of the personal statement. I want to know what are my chances and what can I do to improve them. If I don't get accepted to a UC, should I go the Community College route or CSU route? Like I said, my ultimate goal is to attend medical school.

Depending upon your UC GPA and SAT score, you do have a chance at UCR, plus they just opened a Medical School. If you are set on attending a higher tier UC, then going the CC route would be better and then TAG into UCI/UCSB/UCD. UCLA/UCB/UCSD do not offer TAG.
Here is the link to calculate your UC GPA: <a href=“GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub”>http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/</a></p>

I will definitely be applying to UC Riverside, Merced, Santa Cruz, and Irvine; thanks for the input! What do you think are my chances of getting accepted?

Based on your original post and no SAT score, I would say your chances are as follows:
UCR/UCM: High Match/Low Reach
UCSC/UCI: Reach

For UCSC, you would need at least a 3.8 UC GPA and an SAT of around 1800+
For UCI, you would need at least a 4.0 UC GPA and SAT of around 1900+

You need to look at some Cal States or consider the CC route.

I heard that its difficult to go from a cal state to medical school. Is this true?

Anything is possible if you do well at the Cal State. For Medical school, you need to take all the required classes, get the highest GPA possible, get some medically related EC’s and do well on the MCAT. Medical schools will look down on you if you did go to a Cal State for undergrad.
You could also go to a CC and then TAG into the following UC’s: UCM/UCR/UCSC/UCD/UCI/UCSB after 2 years.
There are many paths that you can take to get into Medical School. My concern would be if you are struggling now with your GPA and SAT scores, what makes you think you will do well at a UC to even have a chance to apply to Medical school???

Well actually my best subjects consist of sciences such as physics, biology, and chemistry which are subjects I am considering to major in; I managed to get As in all of these courses mentioned including the AP courses. As a matter of fact, I have an A in my AP Chemistry class right now. However, I struggled in other courses such as French and AP English which essentially brought my GPA down. I’m more than sure I can do better in college though… So is TAG really my best bet? Sorry for all the questions.

Btw my SAT scores are more like average 1540 if I’m not mistaken

@Junior300: If you are set on attending a UC and do not want to consider UCR or UCM, TAG would be the best way to go. I would go ahead and apply to all the UC’s you planned, to see where you get acceptances. If you are not happy with your choices, CC can be your backup plan. I would still look into some of the Cal States. Like I said, you want to attend a school where you have the best chance at getting a High GPA in preparation for Medical School applications. There have been posters on CC that have gone from CC to a 4 year University and then Medical School and also from a Cal State to Medical School. Anything is possible as long as you are determined…
