Hi everyone!

Question:
I was just wondering how much weight they place on experiences in the fellows admissions process? Does anyone know or have any insight on this?

Quick Background Info on Me:
I was accepted with the Engagement Scholarship EA and the letter encouraged me to apply to fellows programs. I'm applying to Honors and Leadership, but the one that I am really seriously hoping for is Communications. The minimum stats that they suggest for comm are ACT 28 and GPA 3.7. My ACT was 30 and my GPA is a 3.4 UW, but I started my school's newspaper and had an internship at an advertising agency. So I was just curious if the experiences would outweigh my so so GPA?

Even though I'm asking about Comm, I think this can probably be related to all or most of the Fellows programs.

In this blog there is informtation about transportation options from RDU

In the past fifty four percent of the Fellows applicant pool was invited to Fellows Weekend. The average combined GPA was 4.57 with a 2046 SAT (32 ACT).
The Honors program is very competitive and I would think the GPA weighs heavily. My son is a leadership fellow and was actually an alternate the year he got in. He has really liked the program and will also get a minor in leadership when he graduates in May.

I’ve been told for the Communications fellows program numbers are slightly less important if you have had experience.

Emily, you sound similar to my d, although “backwards,” in that her GPA is a 4.34 and her ACT score was a 28. She, too, was admitted EA and given an engagement scholarship, and was invited to apply for the Leadership Fellowship Program specifically (that is her strong suit) via a phone call from her admissions rep, as well as any other Fellow Programs she is interested in…she went with the liberal arts and Leadership ones only. Her scores are certainly below the published stats, but I think that her invitation to apply, and yours, shows that they do look at the bigger picture. Let’s hope so! Best of luck to you.
