Fellows Weekend for the Class of 2024

I emailed the admissions counselor and she said they’ll be released April 1st.

D received her offer today for both Honors and Communications Fellows!!! She was a deadline of 5:00 today to make her choice and she happily accepted Honors.

Was your daughter emailed to check her portal or was she notified by email?

And congratulations!

And congratulations!

We both received emails and the notification was in the email. Thanks! She’s ecstatic-this was her top choice.

Congrats to your daughter! So I’m wondering if mine interviewed for two (Business and Honors) and didn’t get the “choose one” email, does that pretty much mean she got neither one?

We are also standing by. Not sure who is more anxious, daughter or mother. Communications - Journalism As far as not hearing something I would hope your daughter got one and that email will come tomorrow.

I don’t think so, although it may mean she didn’t get both. After the email D also got the main notification to check the portal tomorrow at 5:00.

It is a very anxious time. Best of luck to all the students hoping for positive news. I told my D that she had 4 excellent choices and would thrive at all of them. Elon was her most hoped for choice and what she really, really wanted, but even if she hadn’t been offered either Fellows programs, she was still selected for some amazing programs at great schools. I suspect the students who made it this far in the process likewise also have amazing choices. Plus based on the numbers from last year there are kids who will be offered but won’t take it, which creates opportunities for those waitlisted. D was accepted to two other extremely competitive honors programs (including one that came with $124K), so when she withdraws her applications from those colleges, those spaces will free up for others. So it’s still a bit of a shell game amongst colleges and programs until May 1 and a lot can happen.

After such disappointment at not being invited to compete for Honors Fellows, we left the weekend absolutely thrilled with the Business Fellows program (and convinced it was a great match for her). And, today, I am so delighted that my DD got a position in the program!! I practiced and practiced my brave face and was relieved that I didn’t have to use it!

Waitlisted for two programs. Does anyone know how common it is to be taken off of the waitlist?

Yay! Congrats to your daughter!!

My D was invited to Business but not Honors. She’s disappointed as she has way higher than the stats listed…guess her interview and written part weren’t impressive. So now she has to decide…Business Fellows, William & Mary, U of Florida, or Wake Forest. Anyone have any advice? Decisions are not her forte! Lol

@sound6 … No advice because it’s all so personal. My d’s stats were also way higher than the Honors average and she didn’t even get an invite for the weekend. So … who knows. I was so impressed with the business fellows program and it’s focus on preparing kids for the work world.

My D was accepted into the Teaching Fellows. She’s super excited!! She actually made the decision to commit at interview weekend, but this is the icing on the cake for her!! Any other teaching fellows on here?

@Sound6 Good Luck to your daughter with her decision. Like onemoremom12 said, it’s all so personal. My son is a current freshman at UF and loves it, but my daughter wanted no part of it…way too big. Your daughter has 4 great choices and just needs to think about the best fit for her ?

The other 3 options are indeed very strong competitors. We loved the Wake Forest presentation when we visited, but my D’s stats were not high enough to make it to Wake Forest. Some people love Florida and some don’t. Were you able to visit there? Is Business her intended major? Where would she be travelling from and how important is being close to home?

@sound6 I stand by my statement that it’s a very personal decision about finding the right fit. But … a few thoughts. For my DD, Wake didn’t strike any of the right chords. It’s a wonderful school with a wonderful (and deserved) reputation, but just didn’t feel like her people. She didn’t apply to W&M; I had a niece who went there and is enjoying a successful career now. With Elon, we just immediately fell in love and, as a mom, I am convinced she will receive individualized attention and guidance. She ended up not getting into Duke (despite her high ACT and multi-legacy), but she had decided she would choose Elon over Duke. And, as a Duke alum myself, I was in complete agreement – Elon would be the better place for her. Of course, the money is no-comparison. We are stretching it to send her to Elon, even with the fellows and presidential scholarships!

@mamawitch I just realized you were the poster who agreed to join my 12-step program for CC-addicted parents. Glad your daughter got the teaching fellows! I’m sure my DD would have wanted to commit to Elon with or without the $$, but we couldn’t make peace with it given a pretty nice offer from her second choice. The $$ isn’t much, but every bit counts.

We love the size of Elon and the campus is so beautiful! We are from Florida and my two older kids graduated from UF…this third child isn’t interested (but given the current circumstances, hasn’t ruled it out either). She wants small and collaborative and wants to be more than just a number. Thanks for the input and I wish you and your children all the best!

Elon is indeed a beautiful campus and they just announced a 10 year plan on build out of a new project. They want to be the next Richmond in my opinion. If she is looking for smaller student body than UF and William & Mary would obviously not be good candidates.
