Festival of Books

Anybody good going to be there this year? I got lazy about 1/3 of the way into the list...

Usually a few. SE Hinton was there for what it's worth and Kareem Abdul Jabbar made a cameo for his autobiography or some sort of memoir. Otherwise, it's a long list of contemporary authors.

ughhh... sounds lame. I want someone big/epic to show up -_-

ugh i have to work the bookzone stand at the festival....lame

Ray Bradbury will be there. He's like god in the literary world, IMO.

I heard through the grapevine that Chomsky will make an appearance this year. Is it true?

Here's the tentative author list.

http://www.latimes.com/extras/festivalofbooks/authorlist.html

LOL!! Aly and AJ are going to be here?

I'm bringing my copy of Fahrenheit 451 then..

This is always a very cool event. Those of you who like journalism, you've got LA Times journalists Steve Lopez, Bill Boyarsky and Kenny Turan to name a few.

On the political side, you have Tom Hayden (huge activist and one of the Chicago 7 in the 68 protests in Chicago) -- one of my heroes! -- and Arianna Huffington who really came "out" in more ways than one.

Cheech Marin (brilliant -- Born in East L.A., Up in Smoke) -- met him at a Green Day concert a few years back. . . .

Ray Bradbury -- well, he lives in Cheviot, so why not, and everyone wants to meet him

Henry Winkler -- the FONZ (need I say more)

Gore Vidal -- well, aside from being a brilliant writer, he wrote a scathing attack on GWB.

It's a lot of fun. Take a blue bus and don't drive.

Bringing this thread back up, since the festival starts today. And it is HOT outside, bring sunscreen and water!

i'd rather study for midterms than go :)

dude
how can you pass up ally and aj?

Wow, it's really hot!

Want to study together? I'll be in Powell or YRL, I haven't decided.

maybe YRL. i never go to powell too distracting

Powell is madness. I prefer YRL as well... actually, I prefer the corner of my room... lying around the floor slightly dying but nutriated by beef.

Everybody go! It is fun and you may just see some celebrities, if you are into that sort of thing. My daughters were thrilled last year because Julie Andrews was there. What can I say, they love Julie Andrews.

I had no idea who Julie Andrews was so I searched Wiki as I usually do.

We could eat beef together. ^^

Poor GrassPuppet. A life without Julie Andrews!????
