I'm considering transferring to LSU for the upcoming Fall '10 semester and I just had a few questions that I hope you guys can help me with.

I'm a transfer student, however I have under 30 credits. Will I still be able to get the Tiger Scholars award (3.0 GPA/1170 SAT) even though that's for freshman. The school will be looking at my high school records since I have less than 30 credits so I was just curious.

If not, does anyone know the possible scholarships for transfer students? I tried checking the link for transfer students but all it say's is "Coming soon. Check back often."

When telling one of my friends from the college I just attended that I'm considering transferring to LSU, he told me he went there for a baseball tournament and said it smelled horrible there. I haven't heard anything about this, so I was just hoping someone could clear that up for me. Weird question, I know, haha.

How's the campus at LSU. I probably won't get to visit before I have to make my choice, so I wanted to know if it's more modern or old.

Is there a popular area right off of campus, if so where?

Are there any beaches near LSU?

Has tornados or hurricanes ever effected the school?

Is the business residential dorm only for freshman?

That's all I can think of right now. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I’d say it’s unlikely. But, you can always e-mail the Fin Aid office or if there’s an e-mail for scholarship questions, use that. They are usually decently prompt about getting back to you.

No clue. Again, I would suggest e-mailing someone.

Did he say it smelled like corndogs, lol? Just kidding. Really though, possibly he’s talking about the Mississippi River which is at a high level right now and is seeping into the ground on the other side of the levee (which is where the baseball stadium is). Or if he was at the games, he could be talking about the alcohol / hot beer smell from all the boozing and tailgating that goes on.

But, imo, aside from the tailgating smell(which is only here around baseball and football games, but gone by the weekdays), I’ve never noticed any odd or foul smell permeating LSU campus.

The architecture on campus is mostly Italian Renaissance with red tile roofs. It’s a big campus with lots of oak trees. I think it’s a pretty campus. As far as the actual classrooms, I think many are outdated, others are very nice, others are just plain ol’ classrooms. The union is currently under construction, but will be very updated when finished.

Business major, I would assume. You would have many classes in CEBA or Patrick F. Taylor hall(which is what CEBA is named now). It doesn’t really have a architectural style that fits the rest of campus. The class rooms I’ve been in are decent. Not bad, imo. I actually think they are starting construction on the new business place (I think. At least I’m assuming that’s why that fenced off the parking lot next to CEBA).
If there’s anything specific you want to know about, just ask.

Tigerland is off nicholson is a popular area with a slew of bars (5 mins from campus). The north gates also has a slew of places (Northgate Tavern, Varsity, Chimes, others). The Bulldog on Perkins (10 mins) is more of a chill/hangout place with a 21+ crowd.

There’s the LSU beaches on the LSU lakes, lol. But a real beach, the nearest would be biloxi, MS and then further places like Destin, FL. So anywhere between 2 hour - 4 hour drives.

Gustav caused some damage around campus (tore up some trees and damaged roofs). School was shut down for a few days. The PMAC turns into a triage center during emergency times. That’s only been once since I’ve been here. Never seen a tornado affect campus.

Not sure. You can e-mail reslife or read on the reslife to see.

The “bad smell” comment is probably about the agricultural facilities by the baseball stadium where it smells like manure. That’s only off campus in very particular areas, like the parking lot of Alex Box Stadium (inside the stadium smells fine too). There is no smell on campus whatsoever.
