Few questions regarding the University of Kentucky's homeschool student admission policies

Hello, CC community. I’m Austin. I’m currently a junior and am currently on course to graduate next November. But here’s the catch; I’m homeschooled. Therefore, I have a few fears regarding college admissions, such as the questions that follow this paragraph.

Finally, continuing to my first question. What is required to be admitted to UK as a home-school student? I know most universities require you to submit a detailed transcript (which I have,) whereas some universities require you to submit a ‘portfolio’ of sorts. Second, if I were to be accepted to UK, would I even be considered for scholarships? I know some uni’s, such as OKstate, don’t even consider home-schooled graduates for grant money/scholarships, since they don’t consider home-school GPA’s to be ‘legitimate’.

Additionally, I will have all the courses I took throughout the years on my HS transcript. I will also have all my test scores (i.e. SAT, SAT II Subject Tests, AP exams, etc) on the transcript to show I took and completed the advanced courses that will be listed. Furthermore, I’ll also be able to provide all individual paper exams, assignments, and unit/test scores took for each course from grade 11-12 (I moved and lost all the physical assignments from 9th and 10th grade.)

Feel free to ask additional questions below

[Editors note: I would also like to add that I do reside in KY, so I will be eligible for in-state tuition.]

What does the website say about admission requirements for homeschoolers? If the scholarship info isn’t clear you’ll need to contact the schools to ask for details.

Why are you graduating in November instead of the end of the school year? What will you do for the rest of the year?

Regarding your first question: I actually just emailed their admissions department about the issue. Second, I’ll be working through my senior year course load through the summer, therefore, I’ll be graduating a couple months early.

When does the school year for your local district end? KY homeschool regs say the school term for homeschooled students can’t be shorter than that of their local district. Has that changed? Colleges require verification that homeschooled students completed their course of study according to their state regs.

I recently heard that UK will be hosting a Home Educators Appreciation Day on August 6th where you can meet with admissions counselors, homeschooled students, and have a free lunch on campus. Contact Jacob Westover or Clayton Abernathy in admissions to register.

I haven’t heard of it. Thanks for informing me about it!
