FIGs- Are they worth it?

Okay, I'm probably going to Madison next year, and just recently found out about the FIGs, and was wondering, are they worth it? Can someone who has done it explain whether they enjoyed it or not? I thought it sounded pretty interesting to be in a smaller-knit group for some of your classes, but you never know.

Most find them worthy.

If a FIG includes a math or science class that you have tested out of (for example, from AP exam scores) - you can take the FIG without that component.

FIGs are very popular.

I’m in a FIG right now and I would say it’s worth it. It’s almost impossible to get a full time professor in a small class outside of an English or Foreign Language in a big school like Madison. There are two components to a FIG: an individual “class” that is only available to the FIG and a FIG-exclusive discussion for larger classes. Generally the FIG class itself is challenging but people taking FIGs tend to maintain better GPAs over their college career.
