Filing tax student worker

Hi,

I probably made around 3000 working part time this year, but I didn't file my taxes because its only like 3000. For future reference should I file my taxes while I am working during school? I heard that can damage my fafsa award amount. I am filed under my parents and my efc is 0.

You file a tax return if the law requires you to file one, or if you had taxes withheld and are due a refund.

Normally, $3,000 of earnings by a student means you are exempt from state and Federal taxes and do not have to file. If your employer took taxes out, though, you are entitled to get that money back…the only way to do so is by filing a return.

Your earnings WILL be reported to the IRS whether you file a return or not. You should still report those earnings on your FAFSA.
