<p>My dream is to go to film school and become a director. I am a senior applying for colleges right now. I have no experience at all in film. Is there anyway I could get accepted to a film school, such as FSU for example? I have 4.0 GPA and 29 ACT by the way. Would it be possible to study a different degree and go to a film school for graduate school instead with no experience? thanks!</p>
<p>To answer your second question first: yes, there are many grad programs in film and most people applying there were not film majors in undergrad.
As to you first question: It might be difficult to be accepted to the top tier schools with NO film experiences. However, not impossible if you an demonstrate an interest and show you are a fabulous storyteller. The ability to tell a story well is more important than the ability to make a film You need the former to learn the later.
There are many schools not in the very tip top tier however that DO accept many students who have never had any experience in film. Unfortunately FSU is one of the harder film schools to get into- they have many more qualified applicants than spots- so lack of experience of any kind might hurt you there. But nothing is impossible. If this is your dream school I suggest going and looking and asking a lot of questions about how to show your interest even if you’ve never had film experience.
Note: the program there requires summer work and possibly one extra semester to graduate with a film degree. You should be absolutely sure this is what you want, as once you enter the film track (after the first year) you don’t take any other course there besides the film production sequence.
Have you looked at University of Central Florida (if you are looking at Florida schools)? They have a great program, and are not nearly as competitive for film admission.</p>
<p>The cutoff to apply for FSU for fall 2013 regualar admission and film school start of fall 2014 has passed. It was October 15. I believe you can still apply to UCF up until December 1st.</p>
<p>It doesn’t have to be in Florida. I was stating that for an example because I knew FSU had a film school. What about san Francisco state university?</p>
