Film schools with major options outside the arts

I’m currently a junior in high school. Over the past year, I have been debating with myself over several aspects in reguard to the college search process. Primarily, I am at odds with myself over my selection of major. I really want to pursue a career in film. Ideally, I would want to be a screenwriter or producer, however, I know how unrealistic such a goal can seem. Nonetheless, I feel a need to pursue this dream. Plus, it is truely the only thing I am passionate about. In a film school, I am specifically looking for one that has a program centered more so around fictional television and movies. I am not sure which schools might be best for this specifically. In addition, knowing how risky this field is, I am not sure if I can attend a college that is exclusive to just the study of film. I am looking for a school that could offer me more traditional major options if I choose to leave film for a more attainable career. I need a “safety net” if things don’t go as planned. I need a school that I would have diverse major options. However, I would still like the school to have both a film studies and a film production major (potentially screenwriting), as I am not yet sure exactly where my interests lie. I am also torn as to where I would like to be located for college. I am from New York, so I am obviously open to cities on the east coast such as New York, Boston, Philly, and D.C. I am also open to schools on the west coast, specifically in Los Angeles and the surrounding areas, for film related reasons. I seem to go back and forth daily as to which coast and which city I prefer, so any schools within these areas I am open to considering. As of right now I have a 1300 SAT and a gpa of about 3.84 (unweighted) 4.32 (weighted). I am taking multiple ap and college classes and continue to do so next year. I am in the top quarter of my class and have fairly standard extra cuticular activities (i.e. noting to stand out). I am willing to do supplemental applications if necessary, which I know for some schools it might be. Does anyone know of any schools that might be a good fit for my academic standing and interests?

In the LA area, Chapman and LMU would meet your needs. In the Mid-West, there’s DePaul.
In the East, be sure to check out Emerson, Syracuse and Ithaca.
All of these schools have Film Production with Screenwriting options

UMass Amherst has a film studies program combined with a traditional major. Including participation in the film festival featuring video and film produced by students

@marykate62801 Look at Wesleyan’s film program

http://www.wesleyan.edu/filmstudies/major.html

Read through the information on their website, especially the interviews with alumni/ae who are active in the industry, including television. As a small liberal arts college, Wesleyan would offer a wide range of majors and minors that you could pursue in addition to or instead of film (should you change your mind).

I think that wes is too much of a reach

What have your parents told you about paying for college? Can they pay something? Nothing? Get that figure too.
