I've decided to accept a place on a waitlist for a school that typically gives great aid to admits but I have no idea how that plays out in waitlist admissions. Does it vary from school to school or is it fairly standard across the board. Thank you.

I have heard (from CC and GC) that you will improve your chances of getting off a WL if you forgo financial aid. I have no proof of this, but it makes sense to me that it would be a factor.

Is the WL school needs blind? If they are, you may be comfortable staying on the WL and continuing to ask for financial aid.

Good luck.

You should call the school and ask, as different schools have different policies. My kid was offered spots on three waitlists, one school clearly stated that there would be no financial aid for people offered admission off the waitlist, another clearly stated “we will offer the same financial aid off the waitlist” but then said that although they were need blind for regular admissions they were need aware for waitlist acceptances, and the third said that there was no difference in financial aid policies between waitlist and regular admits.
