30k grant , good luck to everyone!

Booooo mine aren’t up (mishab with IDOC forms).

If you don’t mind me asking, how did your offer compare to other schools? Or your EFC

What was your EFC? and are you an URM?

Mine is not yet complete =/

I have all the forms in, so I guess it’s just down to waiting now

I got 32k from Colgate , 31k from Rochester
16k from NYU
7k from Minnesota
Nothing from UMD.

EFC: 13k

I am Peruvian , born and raised , us citizen. I dont think that counts as a URM.

I’ll die and go to heaven if I’m offered that much in grants. I handed my forms (IDOC fail) in late, so I’m hoping they’ll scrap together something decent for me to attend.

Good luck man , hope to see you at CMU

Nothing for me, either…the only thing missing on my FA forms is “Student’s W-2 Forms,” which I don’t have. Should there be a N/A next to that or something?

^
As soon as I filled out my CSS Profile, it and student tax reform said WAIVED next to them and were marked as completed same date as CSS Profile was completed.

My daughter’s tax form (which we sent in the same time as our parent tax form) and her w2 (which she doesn’t have) both still show as blank. I’ve called about this three different times, and have been told not to worry about it, that they would contact us if they needed anything. There better not be a problem!

For the first time, my financial aid shows “Your financial aid processing is not yet complete.
Check back on ‘Where Am I In the Process’ to be sure you’ve submitted all your required documents.” I’m only missing the W-2, which is not applicable to me. Arggh.

Wow that is a lot. I only 16k in grants

30k in grants here too =) work study and some other stuff too.

Is the “Carnegie Mellon Undergraduate Grant” need-based? If it is, does CMU offer merit-based awards?

Woooooooooooo!!!
My efc is around 20k and I was expecting to have to loan 30-35k a year!

I got my financial aid, and it is 23k! I can make 4 or 5k a year, my parents can give 7k…my dream of CMU looks like it is happening without 1500 monthly payments for ten years!

Those of you who haven’t heard yet, hold out hope. I was already sure I wouldn’t be able to attend, and look at me!

sorry if I am sounding too happy. But I am just that, TOO happy

^ I know how you feel. My debt will be a bit high (unavoidable), but it is certainly manageable. I’m a pretty conservative person when it comes to money.

And @jogo84, yes the grants are need based. Everything in your financial aid package is need based. And CMU does offer merit based scholarships, especially for those who have a high EFC and get little to no financial aid. With 20k EFC, they gave me a little merit scholarship.

I am a current student, and have recently received my financial aid for the next school year. It is really quite poor. I went from receiving 23,000 in grants to only 10,000. My family’s EFC only rose by a few thousand. This is really putting me and my family in a tough spot. PLEASE future freshman be aware that CMU may be giving you a good package just to draw you in for the first year.

shiit. I always thought it was the opposite…as in they would give out more money in the subsequent years if you asked for it…

I’m sorry for your situation archguy. What year are you?

currently a freshman

Like ArchGuy-- D’s package of grants went up from Fresh to Soph year, but in the junior year grants as a percentage of the package suddenly went down and the balance loans increased as a percentage of the package. I cannot wait to see the Senior package.
In the end- the amount for personal expenses is well above what she spends as well as the budget for textbooks-- so the total cost of attendance is never $53 - but much less.

For those of you looking for more savings, housing is also variable like Dining.
A prime double will cost around $700 more than a standard double.
A quad (very few of these) will cost $1500 less than a standard double.
The financial aid package is based on the cost of a standard double.
If you are crazy in love with Mudge you’ll pay for a prime double.

As Kate mentions in another thread (and we followed this advice for S this year), you can get out of the mandatory freshman meal plan. Fill out a “special needs” form and medical documentation is required. If you’re eating on campus anyways–there’s no savings. The savings happens if you plan to eat fewer than two meals a day or live on PBJ, oatmeal, eggs and ramen.

@archguy-- when did your next year package show up on SIO? Recent or a while back?
