No, that estimate is including the scholarship they gave me. Also, there is the fact that we have an 8 person household.

Wait I thought they only gave athletic scholarships

"Stanford Scholarship" - Financial aid grants

oh right ok

Is it too late to do CSS, I was admitted under SCEA..

hey somebodynew are you filipino?

Yeah, my dad joined the US Navy out of college (300 Filipinos a year back then were enlisted), and my mom came over as a nurse. I was born in San Bruno, CA, and after a couple years there and a couple in Havelock, NC, my dad retired up here in Maryland. California's been calling me back ever since lol.

Oh, and I missed the deadlines for ROTC.

Here's to paying back loans for 15 years after I graduate. ::cheers::

is it true that getting into other colleges that would offer more money would help you negotiate with stanford?

i doubt that's true, huh?

haha, forced negotiation, like blackmail but not really ;)
Yeah, if that did work, I would so do it

haha, me too. my parents moved to hong kong and i was born there, but my three brothers are all made in the philippines. then we moved to california, and then later new york, so i guess we're california people at heart.

i filed the css, but do i have to file the fafsa before they give me a fin aid estimate?

My estimate came in with my admission letter - we had only filed the CSS. FAFSA I think doesn't even become available for 2006-2007 until Jan 1.

My parents have to pay $29,000. That's more than 35% of our income! Does Stanford expect my family to starve while I go to college?!

and notice that that $45,300 is only for the 2005-2006 school year, so tuition will probably be even higher for 2006-07, when we go.

our family's ability to pay wa something like >50,000. So yeah, no finaid here. My dad only pulled in 70k last year, but our farm's worth so much (it's huge, and land values just skyrocketed) so we get a 2k loan that'll get taken out by outside scholarships anyway.
Ugh.
It's like they're telling us to sell the farm to pay.

I got my giant huge ginormous envelope with all the stuff - but no FA estimate? ***? i guess i'll call them after break. not like i really need to know how much i'll be in debt so i can start stripping...wahtever

They expect us to take a home equity loan because we have a lot.

I live in NY and not in Manhattan, in Queens. Land value hasn't risen quite so much out here and not only that, my parents do not own the house. We are still paying the mortgage. My fathery pulls in the same amount, about 70k. Paying 30k after taxes is ridiculous. Will filling out the FAFSA really make that large a difference?

I don't know but I feel your pain. The grants at Stanford must have been low this year. Also, I HATE the fact that if you win scholarships, it goes from the need rather than the amount that the parents have to pay. Its really not fair, but whatever. I have been arguing with my parents all day. Puts quite a damper on being accepted :'-C

The high wore off really quickly when I got the estimate as well.

Wait, any outside scholarships will take away from the need? So is there really any point trying to win more scholarships?
