finaid clarification

OK...I spoke to both undergrad admissions AND finaid yesterday. Here is what they told me. They do NOT process NEED BASED aid until the student commits to USC. In the admissions packet there is a sheet on card stock, the bottom gets returned and requires a $200 deposit which is fully refundable if requested before May 1. This is DIFFERENT than most other schools. The above is for need based only. ALSO...the honors college/scholarship applications are processed in the order of receipt. All decisions will be mailed by March 1. The undergrad admissions person suggested that we wait until after March 1 to send the deposit/acceptance card in to them if USC is still on DD's list. By the way, I received email follow ups to BOTH of my phone calls. Also, fyi, they got 1200 applications for scholarship/honors college...yikes 1200 kids actually DID that application. I didn't ask how many they took. The gal said that last year they used 1250 SAT as a gauge, but that varies from year to year depending on the applicants. At this point there is no way to know what the scores will be this year.

What Scholarships are you referring to?? I got a postcard saying McNAir scholarship acceptances go out on January 31st. And I've already been accepted to the Honors College.

They process the honors college and scholarship applications UNTIL March 1. Some students have already heard. Some will not hear until later. BY March 1! Congratulations to you on your acceptance to the honors college. My impression was that they process these in the order in which they were received...my daughter's was postmarked Dec 1...but she won't probably qualify anyway. (SAT is not quite high enough)...Oh well.
