Does your package include need and merit aid, or just merit and loans? Maybe there is more to come?

Does your package include need and merit aid, or just merit and loans? Maybe there is more to come?

Most is merit, and there's some need-based loans and work study... But there isn't any large need-based aid and my EFC is nowhere NEAR 10,000. That's more than one third of my mom's income.

a few comments~ ronda! good for you! ( i said you can plan a vacation) secondly, what you see online is what you get, as far as i know. nothing else coming. third~ i don't mean to be rude, but all of you have cleaned up! NO ONE meets full need/wish! congrats and enjoy!

got over $30,000 in scholarships but no acceptance letter yet, lol

Is there anyway to get more money? I know that sounds bad, but does haggling with the financial-aid office ever actually work?

Lonnie117- I hope so. I can't afford 10,000 dollars so either there's more need aid coming or I can't go...

hmmm...i checked mine and nothing is there. :(

does anyone know if FA info comes in the acceptance package?

lonnie and brillar~ i don't think so. the financial aid office says they "give it their all" and that's it. you all have to do what you have to do, but you've done really nicely, as i said before. your "tab" will be FAR more reasonable than other kids at AU or other private institutions. you've got some big decisions to make. best.

seniorslacker~ yes, it comes as hard copy with the BIG envelope, but is preceded by the online(portal) info.

We are totally content and elated over our son's package, as is he (couldn't have asked for more). I just know some of the others are disappointed and thought maybe what was online wasn't the whole thing.

I'm really sorry if I seem greedy, but 10,000 dollars seems to be a lot... maybe I'm just being dumb, and it's really not a lot? I was just hoping there was more because I'm not sure where that 10,000 extra would come from. My EFC was close to zero...

I dunno. Hopefully I have luck with my schools that do pay full need...

Presidential Scholarship of 27,000 plus 3500 unsubsidized loan. Not bad! Still waiting to hear from all her other applications however.

hey ronda and brillar~
one of the technical problems with this online stuff is that the personal feel doesn't come thru...ronda, i certainly was not referring to you, and brillar, i was trying to say how fortunate you are. YES, in terms of what's happening out there you DID GREAT!

brillar~ easy for me to say, i know, but student loans, i guess, if AU will give your future what you want/need. tough things to figure, but congrats on your acceptance!

I agree with Happy College Mom. A $10,000 gap is surmountable with loans -- and if American provides what you need, it may be worth considering.

Have been trying to find out FinAid award for D....not posted. Does that mean she doesn't get anything? OUCH

Please tell me no...patience, patience, patience.....

my gap is closer to 20,000 eek

arjgn -- Did you click on the 2008-2009 link?

Yes, have been doing that since yesterday when she received the email about her letter being in the mail. Thought the letter would arrive today, but nothing.

I got Presidential for $27000 plus $3500 in loans. Not bad for American, $17K, but bad for my family! :( I think that's unfortunately more than we can swing.
