Thanks Uskoolfish, your directions worked for me. Son received Presidential scholarship and Stafford loan for a total of $30,500. Does anyone know if the Presidential Sch. is good for 4 years provided you keep your grades up? This is going to be a tough decision, still waiting for other acceptances and hopefully more offers.

congrats! yes, i think the scholarships hold if the GPA does! :)

thanks again to uskoolfish. unfortunately the news was not as exciting as hokiefan's. i mean 11k is not shabby by any means, but my family definitely cannot afford 34k a year (with loans and employment). I was hoping that American would come through, as I really wanted to go to DC, but I guess not.

btw, does anyone know what the AU Frederick Douglass Scholarship is?

No, I don't SeniorSlacker, but that's the scholarship I was awarded. I'm in the same boat as you.

i'm sorry, you guys, for what it's worth! i can only share that my d wouldn't trade AU and DC for anywhere, even tho we do have financial sacrifice. i guess there's no way for you?( i say this to be encouraging, not probing. )

well i mean, my parents said they would only pay as much as the full price of the UCs (in-state for me) which is ~25k/yr. I mean if it were like 27 or 28 for american, im sure i could get them to swing it a bit. but its highly unlikely that they will pay 34 a year.

so no, there's pretty much no way. :(

SeniorSlacker~ you'll be fine wherever you go...let's all remember YOU will make your future, not the school! best of luck!

I recieved the Presidential Scholarship as well. How prestigious is this? How many people recieve it?

This question might be dumb but.... I got an AU Grant for around $13,000. Is that just for the first year? Or would I get $13,000 every year?

i still have no updated info, what is up with that?

ok, i got the frederick douglas scholarship too. and about 18.5 k overall

that is way below what i need, and american was a safety...

Some might say that American was a safety for my son, but DC is where he wants to be. He is likely -- highly likely, 99 percent likely -- to attend. He also applied to GW, but I hear their merit scholarships are much smaller.

Anyway, my son also applied to Redlands in California -- much more of a safety than American -- and received less scholarship money there. What I am trying to say is that just because it's a safety does not mean scholarship dollars.

These are for non-Caucasian students. See info: American Weekly

I'm 100% Caucasian, so was there an error...?

The term the article uses is "culturally diverse," so maybe that means it's mostly minority or non-Caucasian with a few Caucasians thrown in. Do you come from an underrepresented area of the country, or do you have any sort of other "non-typical" aspects of your background, like being the first in your family to go to college (which isn't that atypical, but I'm not sure what other word to use)? It could be something like that, because I think I saw a couple white people in the pictures in that article.

Well, my parents didn't go to college, but my older sister is a college graduate. I'm also from Nebraska, so it may well be geographical diversity.

Good point Upsilamba. Thanks.

My letter said I received the Dean's Scholarship ($20,000/year), but I have no FinAid listed on that section of the website, so I wouldn't worry that you're not receiving money until you receive your packet and see for sure.

jasOn~ that would be determined each year. grants relate to your FAFSA, which is redone every year. so, yes, your $13,000 is for this year only., but it could be the right figure going forward, as well. you'll just need to re-apply.

Any international student who won scholarship or get FA?
