Final "Alternative" Decisions 2006/7

Hi MT Geek,

I have you down on the other Final list for your choice of RIC. I feel by going for the BA in theatre, you are most definitely on the right track to performing in MT. Especially with your choiced of minors. I thought the the "alternative" list could be for kids who perhaps could not get into any theatre or performance programs whatsovever. For instance, they had to choose another major entirely, like Communications. Two of the schools Mel was rejected from for MT, Emerson & PSU, both asked her to choose another major though not in the Performing Arts realm. A tricky thing to do if you want to perform.
This thread is for our out of the box thinkers & doers, who are headed in the same direction, but by another route entirely!

oh I'm sorry! I thought this thread was theatre related decisions for kids who didnt get into bfa programs. My mistake!! No wonder why I thought the thread had turned out severely off topic!! haha my bad...

No, your were right about that, I think at some point we started sharing summer plans her somehow...def off topic :)

there can't only be 2 of us, can there??!!?

come on, other "alternativers"...let us know what's up!!

Sporti -- I posted my d's "alternative" decision on the Final Decision thread. She auditioned for 4 MT programs and was accepted to 2 of them ... but she wasn't 'in love" with either program. Truth be told, she was not 100% sold on the conservatory environment. Tulane allows her to pursue a more traditional liberal arts curriculum before committing to a BFA program. Given her uncertainty, I think she made the best decision possible.

Sporti,
I don't know why but not everybody is posting their final decisions. We have over 150 people on the acceptance list but only 100 have posted their final decisions. Hopefully those that were here will give us at least that before they move on to the next "stage" of their lives!

Dear Melsmom and Sporti,
I think it's because there are still a few who are waiting on waitlist notifications before they are absolutely, 100% sure. I know this is my daughter's case. She is not counting on coming off the waitlist and has secured a spot elsewhere, but she will not post her final decision until all the facts are in. This happened to a dear friend of her's last year. She accepted a spot at another school and made her plans accordingly. Several weeks later she received a phone call from her first choice school notifying her that she had been accepted into the program (which incidentally has no waiting list). She was floored to say the least but wished she hadn't already solidified her decision to attend the other program. She decided to stay with the original plan because she was already emotionaly invested. I think it's a good idea to try to stay a bit detached until all of the information is in. I think this might be what is happening.

It's a great thread.

Boopsters Mom

boopster's mom --

great point!! i had forgotten about the whole waitlist thing. last year i was waitlisted for Yale and NYU/CAP21 and was incredibly reluctant to say anything to anyone before i got the final "yes" or "no" from the waitlists.

i wish all you waitlisters the best of luck, i know how nerve-wracking it is!!!

Sporti,
I love reading your posts. You are always so positive. I have a feeling you are going to make it big and be a beacon of light to all of those coming after you.

God Bless,
Boopsters Mom

boopster's mom --

thank you!! that was so sweet. hopefully i will have some audition success this year and be able to share it with CC. i know that i've definitely found hope in stories i've found here on CC, and (fingers crossed) maybe i'll be able to do the same in the future!!

i hope your daughter hears good news soon, but at least she has a place secured somewhere.

either way, it's getting near the time for A LOT of people to start shopping for X-Long Twin sheets!! hahaha.

i'm eager to hear more decisions, "alternative" or otherwise!
