Background info: MUST READ:
[ul]
[li] I am currently in contact with the Track coach at Emory and we speak back and forth a lot. I’m not officially being recruited, but he wants me. Not sure how much pull D3 coaches have.
[/li]

[li] I got surgery on my back on August 9th. I had a herniated disc the ENTIRE year, and it drastically affected my life, from depression, to insomnia, to 20 full school days missed from not being able to walk or sit at times. (20 school days is an entire month missed…to put it in perspective).
[/li]

[li] While my grades did improve after my sophomore year, they didn't improve as much as I wanted them to because of my time constraints, obviously. I didn't get my operation done in the school year so I could still compete in the spring, so most of my time was centered around just being able to sleep and walk without a considerable amount of pain. If I didn't compete this spring I wouldn't be able to compete in college, so I kind of had to sacrifice a lot of my life just for that. So, I will have a bunch more time to focus on my grades as opposed to the last year.[/li][/ul]

Letters of recommendation:
Pretty good/awesome.
[ul]
[li] Guidance counselor’s…not sure…apparently it’s really good according to her, but she was out on maternity leave. However, she was my spanish teacher in middle school and has known me for 6-7+ years.
[/li]

[li] My English teacher taught me both freshman and junior year and has seen me grow. My Chem teacher and Bio teacher (10th and 9th grades respectively) wrote their recs together to make sure they complimented each other. Despite being early-year teachers, I always visited them after school and spoke with them. These will be AWESOME (I think).
[/li]

[li] My architecture teacher has seen me grow a lot and also saw me win my 2nd prize thing. She knows me extraordinarily well and we are very close…I think this will be great too.
[/li]

[li] Lastly, and I think this will be the best one, is my letter from the surgeon I shadowed. He told me that he would mention both my surgery/recovery, and also how I visited on my crutches and spent time with a small boy was recovering from reconstructive facial surgery after being bitten by a dog. [/li][/ul]

Essays:
I think they’re pretty good.

Common app essay is a funny story about how I decorated my high school courtyard with some friends because I got really bummed out after seeing the movie Avatar, and wanted people to appreciate our community in the same way I was astounded by the landscapes in Avatar. (side note: a part of this essay describes how right after I saw the movie, my immediate resort was listening to the soundtrack of Avatar in the shower the lights turned off lol :))

For Emory: My teach a class supplement is awesome. My extracurricular supplement is pretty good I think. Every essay I wrote was a narrative and they all display my creative abilities.

For Tulane: My Why Tulane is amazing.

Miami: I have a cousin who went there lol. No supplement.

Northeastern: I got an application waiver in the mail and applied for free. Does this count? There's no supplement either.

THANK YOOOOUUUUU!!!! It’s just a waiting game from now on.

Emory- high match/ low reach
Tulane- match
Northeastern- match
UMiami- match
NYU- low reach

You’re an interesting case. Everything looks really solid (I especially like your unique ECs) except for your grades. Those grades really are low. However, your surgery does help to explain them a bit. That said, here are my predictions:

Emory: Deferred/Waitlisted (Unless you’re recruited, then good for you!)
Tulane: Accepted
Northeastern: Accepted
Miami: Accepted
BU: Accepted
NYU: Rejected
Syracuse: Accepted
UConn: Accepted

These predictions are pretty tentative, though. It really depends on how well you can explain away those bad grades.

I think I explained the bad grades well. Most of my recommendations mention the surgery/injury as well.

BUMP10char

Does being able to pay full tuition help?

Emory has “need blind” admissions, meaning applicants’ ability to pay is never a consideration in admissions decisions. (At least, that’s what they say…)

Emory ED: Low-mid reach, but I think you have a great shot. Recruited people who apply ED generally get in.
Tulane EA: Low reach
Northeastern EA: Match
University of Miami EA: Match
Boston University RD: Match
NYU RD: Match
Syracuse RD: Match/Safety
University of Connecticut RD: Safety
