May 1st is rolling around quicker than I imagined it would and I have yet to commit to a university! I have been admitted to several schools but have narrowed my list down to:

Northwestern University
University of Pennsylvania
Dartmouth College
Cornell University
Duke University

I am leaning towards Duke because I had the opportunity to visit recently and I LOVED it. But I will also be visiting Cornell before the month is out. I don't want to get stuck in the "Ivy-League" mode but would rather attend the school that best suits my interests

Few Facts about Me:
Undeclared Major
Not an extremely cold-weather person
Love diversity and to have fun
Would like to study abroad and have lots of opportunity for research and internships

Any suggestions?

If you were accepted at all these schools, I trust that you can determine which ones are in the cold weather zone.

Looks like it will be Duke.

Are there significant cost differences between the schools?

You really haven’t given us enough information to help you make a decision. Northwestern, Dartmouth, and Cornell are in colder parts of the country, but if that was a significant factor in your decision I doubt they’d be on your list.

Diversity means different things. All of those schools have similar levels of racial diversity. Dartmouth and Duke are more well-known for their partying culture and Greek life than the other schools are, but all of those schools have some social life to speak of.

As they are all prestigious universities, they will all have great study abroad and internship and research opportunities. All of them are RU/VH universities which means they have the highest research output.

Assuming that the cost is not a factor (because they all cost around the same out of pocket to you), I don’t think it will make a significant difference to pick one over the others, so you should go with the one that you feel most strongly about.

Personally I would choose Duke, but that’s because I am a Southerner and I wished to go Greek in college.

Sorry. Im new here and didn’t know how to respond to messages! Okay. I’m taking about extreme weather (below 30 degrees a majority of the year).

Diversity- Not only racial diversity but diversity of culture. I want to be able to meet all kinds of people from all around the world

Then there’s that “Ivy” label. Many of my friends/family want me to choose Cornell, mainly because of its Ivy status. I personally don’t think it matters, but a couple adults were saying it makes a difference when trying to find a job post-grad?

If you want diversity, then Cornell is a great choice. It is diverse in its majors, student body and restaurants in college town! It is a great school.

But it is in the northeast. Therefore it is cold. But otherwise it is an environmentally beautiful place. Beautiful parks, waterfalls, gorges and swimming holes. And a finger lake with many wineries.
