I still haven't received my UMich Decision. I applied really late (Feb. 1st), and I'm wondering if anyone knows when the last day for decisions is?

Anyone else still waiting for a decision?

Anyone else still waiting for a decision?

A ton of us are still waiting!! I think the consensus is that decisions come out April 15...but at this point, I've come to expect surprises!

I called several times, and the guy said "APril 15th " (cold....)

Wow. I can't believe we still have to wait until 15th to hear our RD decision. I mean it just feels like I'm waiting for an waitlist decision.

somebody taht i knew got his decision two days ago and he applied 1 day earlier than i did! (in late jan)

At this point #2 son has just about written this off and is focusing on his other offers. This year is so different than when #1 son went through - he applied mid October, had an offer in hand by mid December.

This is really stupid, April 15th...

However, I think this might be a good idea compared to UCLA, because I felt that to meet their deadline(march something) not all applications were read, I certainly don't think mine was (I felt the top 2 UCs had a GPA cutoff and whatever is below wasn't read). If all applicants for Michigan are carefully considered, then this is worth the wait.

^^ Where did you get this info about UCLA from?? Because I'm pretty shocked I didn't get in either!

The UCs have since the end of November to read all the applications ... and they don't have the complication of having to deal with rolling admission. I think that should be enough time.

They didn't start reading until the December scores got in, which isn't the end of November.

@dollybee10: I didn't get it from anywhere, I assumed. I assumed so because someone from my school got in with a ~3.90 GPA(1 Honor class, and only took up to regular trig)/1700/600/600 and 4 years of a sport w/o awards or anything. I didn't get in with a 3.5 GPA (10+ honors/AP courses, passed BC junior year)/1950/800/780, baseball, leadership, performing arts, 200+ hrs of service, and academic clubs(MATh, FBLA, etc). He had no special situations, and I'm sure my essay was better. I'm not saying I deserve to get in UCLA, but I think I deserved it more than him. Everyone with 3.90+ OR 2100+ pretty much got in.

Not true. Many applicants have completed their applications before end of November. UC admissions can start processing those right away.

That's a very good point Goblue. Michigan's application deadline is February 1 and it is often extended to February 15 to allow last minute applicants the time to forward all their documents. This may have worked when Michigan had 20,000 applicants. However, with 30,000 applicants, I think Michigan cannot handle the volume in the time given. Perhaps Michigan should make the application deadline January 1 with no extention so that it has the time to respond to all its applicants come April 1.

Hoedown, what are your thoughts on this. Is Michigan revisiting its application deadline?

I heard that only deferred applicants will hear on the April 15th while the rest of us will hear earlier. Alot of the applicants in my school including me havnt heard yet? is it possible that they area gonna release all the pending decisions on April 15th or is it possible to hear sometime next week?

I have no problem with the Feb 1 application deadline...or even that they're taking till April 15 to get all the decisions out. It just bugs me that UMich isn't courteous enough to send out at least a stinkin' email letting us know what exactly is going on!

my application was marked complete december 3. i was told 6-8 weeks over the phone. At the end of that period i was told 8-10 weeks. Then I was told 10-12, then 12-14, then 14-16, and after that they said by mid April. UMich's admissions process should not be advertised as rolling admissions, seeing how the bulk of the students who apply to michigan, according to the person I talked to at Michigan admissions office, will hear back April 15. Michigan's admissions process is by far the worst of the schools I have applied to.

That's not the way they've done it in the past. I wonder what happened this year.

i've got no clue why this is happening this year, but it sure seems to be discouraging some students from even wanting to go to umich

rg, I am not sure Michigan is going to have trouble convincing students to come. From what I have seen, a huge chunk of Michigan's class has been filled. What is remaining are the very late applicants (those who applied in late January and February) and the borderline cases. There are obviously highly qualified applicants who applied earlier than mid January who still haven't heard, and that is Michigan's loss, but I am sure those are the exceptions.
