Final Decisions; BACKGROUND, Class of 2019

@KaMaMom, I couldn’t wait for your story and you didn’t disappoint!! CONGRATULATIONS!! Now get thee to the fun of senior year activities!!

@KaMaMom Huge smiles, high fives and well wishes. Thanks for sharing your journey and keeping everyone along in such a real and human way!

I know we are all thrilled for you @kamamom! You refused and you daughter refused to give up - and came shining through.

@KaMaMom – soooooooo happy for your D and for you. I know it was a rough road, but it sounds like your D is just where she belongs. I am glad that we could share this journey together!! Now you can breathe!

Yay @KaMaMom. So many of us have been rooting for you and your D.

I love reading these stories. People outside of Theater/MT just don’t get it – our kids go through the ringer! But, it does really boil down to what feels like the best fit and where they’ll be the happiest. Heck, my son chose a school he didn’t even visit! It just felt right. Good luck to those still trying to decide.

@KaMaMom I have followed your story with great interest. Your honesty, your love for your D, your willingness to go to the ends of the earth to find where she is meant to be - and to keep researching and adding options as the dominos started to fall- was truly inspiring and educational. So many don’t make that extra effort. They get their now and think it is just not meant to be. But you are proof positive that determination and hard work pay off. I know you have inspired many. So thank you and your D for your willingness to share with all of us. I know she will love Nebraska Wesleyan and look forward to hearing about her experiences there. Like @EastchesterMom has done for CAP21/Molloy - you are bringing great attention to what sounds like a fantastic program that hopefully many future CCers will add to their list of programs to consider.

I love happy endings!

Yay @KaMaMom Congrats!!!

I agree with everything already expressed, @KaMaMom! I was looking forward to reading your final decision post, and it was as good as I’d hoped. Woo-hoo!

@KaMaMom that was a three-tissue post. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

My S is…was…a jock. He started playing football when he was 7 and lacrosse when he was 10. By the time he was a sophomore in HS, he was being recruited to play college lacrosse. We spent our summers traveling to the east coast from lacrosse tournament to lacrosse tournament. He played lacrosse all year round. Imagine my surprise when he told me a girl from school heard him singing a Cold Play song @ lunch and asked him to audition for the Spring Musical. Not a single voice lesson, acting class, dance class, choir, community theatre…nothing. He auditioned for his very first musical, Godspell and got the lead…Jesus. My S’s HS has a very well respected theatre department. He literally auditioned straight off the lacrosse field. Once Godspell was over (April 2014) my S told his lacrosse coach that he no longer wanted to play lacrosse in college, and therefore had to quit his team to begin training for musical theatre for his college auditions, because that is what he wanted to do.

I was fortunate to have found @kategrizz on another website (sounds sketchy I know) but seriously, it was the website of the studio where her D trained and got me in touch with the proper people and my S started training immediately…Imagine someone calling you right now, in the throws of finding out results for your child and some newbie comes along and says…“Help!! My S is a junior and has never had any training and wants to go to college for MT.” She then pointed me to College Confidential and MTCA I am forever bowing to her! Can’t thank you enough @kategrizz My S was so late in the game…he had missed nearly all the summer program’s audition dates, because when most kids were auditioning for summer programs, he was still swinging a lacrosse stick in the air…Anyway… As in perfect CC fashion, several CCr’s gave such great advice, some not so much LOL…I will never forget @MTMajorCook coming to my rescue and guiding me on how to film prescreens for Interlochen. Thank you!!! He got in, but chose to go to Indiana University’s Midsummer Theatre program bc it cost the same as Interlochen, but was a week longer  Love all the support I was given!! Thanks @MTRaleighmom and @MTmom2015 and all my Mommy MT mafia!!!

Summer program - IU 2wk Midsummer Theatre Program

Training - Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Musical Theatre Class and Vocal Lessons April 2014-present

Coaching - MTCA - started in June…HIGHLY recommend them

Something to consider… whoever comes up with the EFC from FASFA must be smoking crack! No way can we comfortably afford our EFC…also…Merit $ far exceeds talent money…most schools give one or the other, some give both…bottom line…do as well as you can with your grades, grades pay!!

My S had a lot of must haves… Great program, great academics and great football

Final decision: TCU

TCU has all that and more! My S was also invited into their Honors College which was very important to him. He was invited into many college’s Honors programs, but TCU’s standards were higher and he felt was better academically than most of his choices. TCU has a fabulous program and an incredible working relationship with 7-10 professional theatres that the student’s are able to work with and earn equity points while still in school. The campus is outstanding and the faculty is awesome! We went for a visit and saw their Guys and Dolls and WOW!! Way better than the National Tour version we saw in December. So happy for him!!! G Frogs!!!

Thank you all!!!

Tmygirl out…

@tmygirl … I’ve been waiting and wondering which way your son would go!!

Congrats!!

Congrats @tmygirl! What a wonderful adventure for you and your S. He certainly seems like he is full of drive and ambition!

I take offense with you stealing my line about EFC and FAFSA! I’ve said it so much that when I say EFC or FAFSA, S immediately says I know mom, they spoke crack!

We can pay our EFC but what’s up with schools tacking on another 15k and saying “this number is actually what we have determined you can probably find enough loans to cover!”

@tmygirl - couldn’t be happier for you or your S at how your very compressed journey unfolded! I remember telling my husband the night I first exchanged online messages with you - OH MY HECK - I don’t think they realize what they are getting into!! But, your S just buckled right down. Knew what he wanted, and worked his tuckus off to make it happen! Totally didn’t hurt that he’s loaded with natural talent. While I’m bummed that his final choice is so far away from our home state that I will never get to see him in a college production, I’m over here secretly praying that he and my D end up in something together somewhere along the way!!! A) because it would be amazing and B) because it would give us a great excuse to hang out together!

And congrats to all who are posting their journeys - I’m reading them all! Check your likes - I should be there on every single one! <3

Congratulations to all! @KaMaMom, I am so thrilled for your happy ending (beginning!) for your D and appreciate your perspective on the Ivies of MT. I couldn’t agree more. I think that information will be invaluable to students and parents in the coming years reading this forum.

@tmygirl must have felt good to finally write your final decision post! So happy I asked to sit next to you and your hubby at the IU audition! You have been a huge support to me through all of this and I have loved watching your S’s journey! I look forward to seeing our kids progress through college and beyond & sharing a friendship for years to come!

@KAMaMom I’m loving your background story! It’s SO great to be pulling for you and your D and then get to read a post filled with such happiness! Congrats! ENJOY the rest of the year.

As an aside—WAIT! Western Carolina has Terrence Mann? Like on faculty? (My eyes are bulging here!) WOW!

@KaMaMom welcome to the NWU family!
