I'm a community college student and I have applied as a junior transfer to some UC's for Fall 06. I applied to berkeley, Irvine, LA, and Davis.
I received a nonpassing grade on one of my classes for the Fall 05 semester. I am planning on filling out the UC application update form online with my final fall semester grades and adding the class that I need to retake for spring semester.

Do i need to notify the UC's about about the non passing grade and the course change, or will the online update form take care of this? I'm kind of confused whether i need to or not. Spring semester hasn't started yet, so I can't see my counselor.

Also does anyone know how this works with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo? Their faq page basically says no course corrections.

"Do i need to notify the UC's about about the non passing grade and the course change, or will the online update form take care of this?"

I am assuming thats what the update form is for. Proly 10-20% of students had changed their academic plans or couldn't get into the class they wanted to take. i don't think uc want to hear for everyone.

Alot of the UC's faq pages said that they needed to be notified in writing about course changes and stuff. I think read that Davis wanted a letter and an explanation about getting a grade lower than C.

Anyway I'll just fill out the application update form. About the comment box, do they actually want to hear my excuse for my grade? Or just say that yea i didn't pass and I will retake this course immediately.

I think they want to hear why you failed--as well as how you are retaking it immediately (in the comments section). I would list circumstances (if you have them) that caused you to not exercise your full ability--a job, family issues, etc.
