I was wondering if I still have to personally email/fax updates to UCLA/Berkeley, even after I already updated my information through the Transfer Application Update website.

The recent changes I made to my transfer application on the Transfer Application Update website involved recording a passing grade (B) that I received from my Winter 2011 Statistics class that ended after the priority Transfer Application Update deadline (January 30), and an "add" of a non-UC-transferable class to my Spring 2011 class schedule. I also updated all my "planned" Spring semester classes to "In Progress" status.

Am I required to personally send you these updates, or will my recent changes to my application on the Transfer Application Update website be enough?

What if I decide to drop the non-transferable class (penalty free, and without a "W") that I added to my Spring class schedule on the Transfer Application Update website? Would I still need to report the changes I made to my online application (Winter '11 -> B, and Spring '11 "Planned" -> In Progress)?

I don’t know why, but I can’t edit out a large part of my post which is no longer relevant…

Please just respond to the situation in the last paragraph of my first post:

Do I need to personally send updates to Berkeley/UCLA if all I updated after the Transfer Application Update deadline (Jan. 30) was a Winter '11 grade (B) and my “planned” Spring courses as “In Progress”?

I was in the same situation as you. I faxed berkeley and davis about my updates, although I have yet to receive a reply ( I think they’re swamped right now). For all the other UCs I applied to (LA, SB, SD) i just emailed them and they told me to just use the update site.

My spring classes started at the 1st of February, and the last priority update thing was due at the 31st of January. I updated the site 2 weeks ago and I changed my planned classes to in progress. I had dropped a class (didn’t get a W) so I had to update my application.

So basically I didn’t update my application solely for the planned -> in progress thing. My friend didn’t change his. I don’t really think it matters.

I was told by the NorCal Berkeley rep that faxing a message about an update isn’t necessary as long as the application update online is still available. Apparently it’ll shut down after a while. (Davis told me the same.)

I’m in the similar situation. So I called UCSD and UCI this morning and they told me to just go back to the update website and update it again even though the deadline has passed. However, I had to email UCLA and I’m planning to fax Berkeley tomorrow. Is that all I have to do? I dropped one of the classes in Spring without getting a W. I have already finished IGETC and pre-reqs and fulfilled 60 units, so dropping a class won’t penalize me…

I just want to know if that’s all I have to do. Any inputs?

Cool stuff. If BostonCrmPie is correct, then we should all be good to go.

I know this may seem like a dumb question, but if the schools I applied to actually receive my latest updates (Winter '11 = B, and Spring = IP), which GPA would they consider for the admissions process? Would they look at my 3.94 GPA that I had before the priority transfer application update deadline (January 30th), or would they look at the 3.94 minus the B I got in Winter (I think it’s a 3.85 now) from my most recent update after the deadline? Is there even a possibility of the latter happening?

I’m hoping it’s like they only look at my recent Winter updates for Ds/Fs/Ws/Drops since the Transfer Application Update deadline, and still use only the Fall 2010 grades to calculate GPA…

Winter classes are something they don’t look at. I recall someone saying that they do this in order to make it fair for students who attend colleges that don’t have winter session. So yes, they do not factor winter classes into your GPA when they are reviewing the apps.
