Final list- Stanford, USC, UVa, UCLA, Cornell, Stern, RU

Rutgers is definitely a safety. UVa out-of-state and Stanford are reaches for everyone because their acceptance rate is ~10%. Cornell, UCLA, NYU amd USC are all matches which means you have a good but NOT definite chance of getting in; you will be competing with many kids with similar stats. Your magnate school will definitely help. But a key question to ask your GC is what is the success rate from your school given your class rank? Those are the stats for acceptance you should pay the most attention to. It's a pretty good list but you make it a bit hard for yourself by including so many high-end out-of-state state schools where the pool of slots will be limited. Would you consider other private colleges at a similar level (eg, Brandeis, Tufts, Tulane, URochester, CMU, etc)?

Legacy means little at most large public schools like Rutgers, especially if you're in-state. You will likely be accepted, however, though I think you're pushing it with the scholarship expectation.

Your stats aren't impressive enough for UCLA and probably not Virginia as an out-of-state candidate.

I really think you need some more safeties. You have some huge reaches on there.

Yea i dont understand why everyone thinks USC is a shoe in either. USC's admissions criteria is higher than UCLA's. I believe the avg SAT score for the class of 09 is low 1400s. The stats are out.

I don't know why that is, but it seems that many people with sub-par scores get into USC. Or is it just the people I know?

But more commonly USC is known as a school of rich kids.

I guess its just people you know. Everyone I know who got in got at LEAST a 1350 SAT score.

Well USC isn't an UC school, so they don't care about state residency at all. A lot of oos kids get in pretty easily compared to UCLA. However if you are instate then....

I agree that most of my schools are high end, and no guarentees, but those are the only schools I'm interested in. I like the big university feel with good sports teams and a lot going on. I would be fairly content if Rutgers is the only school I get into, so I don't see any reason to apply to anymore.

Everyone has said I have a decent shot at UCLA, UVa, USC, Cornell, and NYU, so if I got into at least one of those, I'd be happy.
