Final list- Stanford, USC, UVa, UCLA, Cornell, Stern, RU

OK I posted this a while back, but didn't get too much response. I'm a sports fan, so how about doing this in terms of odds to make it more interesting. Example: USC 11:5 odds of me getting admitted

White male from NJ, majoring in business, or economics.
GPA
frosh-92.75
soph-94.6
junior-95.8

All classes are considered honors level, but unfortunately my school does not offer any APs. I took all the thoughest courses for senior year, which is advanced physics and statistics in addition to calc. My school has more credits than the average high school. We take almost all academic classes,(no shop class, home ec, we only have gym once a week and not at all senior year, etc.) My school doesn't rank, but my counselor would write top 10% if asked. I go to a public magnet school. All grades are unweighted.

ECs
-Writer for school paper. Chosen to attend conference in Atlanta for journalists. Editor of sports section of school paper senior year(10,11,12)
-Taken classes soph and junior year for cisco ccna certification I plan to take in a few weeks. I'm one of about 4 left out of original 20+ to start course. I'm going to see if I can be an assistant teacher for next year's students. (10,11,12)
-Multicultural club, maybe leadership position next year (11,12)
-Math club member, high scorer from my school on a few contests (11,12)
-Basketball frosh year, baseball for a traveling team frosh and soph year
-NHS member (11,12)
-I tutor homeless and abused kids once a week for 1.5 hours Junior/Senior year. (11,12)
-2nd place in a bodyboarding contest my freshman year (never competed again because they are expensive and you don't really win much). Bodyboarding is my favorite past time however.

Work experience
2 summers working 40 hours a week for the Army in a business management office (took a 2 day class in Earned Value Management Systems while there). Also caddied and worked at baja fresh when I was a freshman/sophomore.

SAT scores
740 CR
730 M
690 W

SAT II
770 US History
680 Math II (retaking, shooting for mid 700s)

Schools-
Rutgers (legacy and instate)
UCLA
UVa
USC
Stanford (SCEA)
Cornell Hotel School
NYU Stern

Rutgers (legacy and instate)- Accepted w/ scholarship
UCLA- Accepted
UVa- Accepted
USC- Accepted
Stanford (SCEA)- 60% chance accepted
Cornell Hotel School- Accepted
NYU Stern- Waitlisted (Crapshoot)

60% chance at Stanford? No way. Post responsibly! UVA oos is also VERY difficult as is UCLA. Good chance at Cornell Hotel and USC.

Rutgers - accepted
UCLA - accepted
UVA - rejected
USC - accepted
stanford (SCEA) - 25% accepted
Cornell hotel - 50% accepted
NYU stern - idk

What happened to the odds here guys? 50%= 2:1

I am definitely no shoo in at UCLA or UVA (two of my top choices), and I'd be surprised to have a good shot at Stanford.

I'm sorry but your standardized test scores are way too high for the UC system.

Wait, you don't take gym senior year? Doesn't NJ law require a certain amount of hours of gym per year? And how is your school a magnet public if it doesn't offer AP or IB?

LOL. Ok, moving on. ;)

Stanford is gonna be a huge reach, but you already knew that. Try to up your scores a bit if possible. Write really, really good essays and your chances will be at least a bit higher. UVa and Cornell should be a bit more realistic, but still both reaches. NYU Stern is a slight reach.

Sorry, no odds offered here... I hate math/statistics.

Rutgers - accepted
UCLA - accepted
UVA - rejected
USC - accepted
stanford (SCEA) - rejected
Cornell hotel - rejected
NYU stern - coin flip

My friend got into both UCLA and stern last year, with slightly worse scores, grades, and virtually no ECs besides tennis & work. He was in-state for UCLA though.

Stanford: 10%
UCLA: 25%
UVA: 20%
Cornell Hotel 55%
Stern: 50?
USC: 80%

We have to complete all the physical requirements on our own by having a coach or parent sign that we have done a certain number of hours. I hate it personally, I like gym class. Yeah it sounds stupid that a magnet school has no AP classes. When I first started going there we were supposed to have about 7 APs, (like the other magnet schools in our county which are ranked nationally), but our school was brand new, and the first year of seniors did horrible on the AP exams, so they got rid of all of them, angering me even further. My school specializes in communications, so we have a lot of computer, journalism, tv, and visual arts classes.

I'm surprised by some of my responses, I thought I was more of a match for Cornell and UVa than UCLA. My counselor is pushing me for UVa, her son went there and she loves the school. She said she would write a special recommendation for UVa for me. Cornell seems to like my school a lot, we've had a bunch get in, some with significantly lower SAT scores and lower grades.

Can you guys elaborate on more of what the odds are at each school instead of what you predict as the outcome? Thanks for the responses, I appreciate it.

dodgerblue:

UCLA: 5:2

lol, dodgerblue, what school do you go to? (i'm from NJ too)
You can PM me if you don't want to post it

Or you can just ignore me if you think i'm being a creep... ;)

you are in at USC & Rutgers & probably Cornell Hotel.

The rest (except Stanford) are reasonable, slight reaches. UCLA & UVA are much tougher out of state...if you were in state, you'd be in.

Stanford is a high reach, but it is for just about everyone.

Stanford is definitely not 60 %...I would say like 20% chance unless you are URM.

Whoever said Stanford is 60% needs to reconsider ( not trying to offend anyone but lets be realistic for once).

Rutgers (legacy and instate)- 7:2
UCLA- 4:3
UVa- 5:2
USC- Accepted ( no odds needed )
Stanford (SCEA)- 5:1
Cornell Hotel School- 3:1
NYU Stern- 3:2

7:2 for Rutgers? That is the one school I'd be extremely surprised not to get into, and not get a scholarship to.

Thanks for using the odds, I appreciate it. Is there anything I can do as far as essays that could help make me stand out more at any of these schools? Anything specific I should emphasize?

Why does everyone think I will get into USC?

for koala, I go to Communications High School in Monmouth County.

oh lol i've never heard of it.

Wait, no way is it harder to get into UVA than it is to get into UCLA.

Rutgers (legacy and instate)- accepted
UCLA- unsure, very fickle acceptance
UVa- unsure
USC- accepted
Stanford (SCEA)-rejected
Cornell Hotel School- accepted
NYU Stern-accepted
