Final MT Decisions Background - Class of 2022

@Jerseymom99 your story sounds familar not sure if you joined us on the Ithaca FB page yet? First of all Congrats IC is one amazing program!!! My D is finishing up Freshman year this week in MT. She was a dancer first (13 years classical ballet training)! who could sing and act not sure why Ithaca has such a unknown dance reputation but let me tell you she is getting amazing dance training. Her facilities are great and she loves the dance faculty. We also have a dance company called Rock Hard that your son could audition for come Fall my daughter is in that too. We did the Emerson summer program the summer before senior year and my daughter declined the offer because she decided she wanted a campus, occasional football game and a fun college town to run around. If you have any questions please PM me. Huge Congrats he will be very happy there!

@Jerseymom99 - My D knows exactly who your S is, and was so excited to hear his story. Yes, so nice that the SU Summer College kids have kept in touch. So many amazing memories.

Thanks so much, @MTdreamz ! I read your story eagerly because I saw how similar our kids were with the comp dance background, plus the city to not-city thing! I wish your D every success - she sounds amazing. (I also loved your comment about her being a little sad it was all over - my S loved auditioning and meeting all these different people too. It was stressful but exciting.)

@lincoln56 I am so happy to hear that your D is happy! One of the things that stuck out the most to my S was how the kids all said the dance training was great - he knew the music would be amazing and that’s the main reason he wanted such a strong music school to help him in that area. But he’s excited about the dance stuff too. The graduating senior he met with told us that he started out with no dance background, and ended up considering himself a dancer and several of his classmates were the same.
Was your D in the Ballet III class this semester, or did she do that last semester? That’s the class he observed a few weeks ago; just wondering if maybe he saw her. He was really impressed because there was one guy in the class who my S thought was very good, and he mentioned him to the ballet instructor and she was like, “Yeah, he just started dancing last year.” My S was thinking, “If they can turn non-dancers into dancers like that, they can definitely push me forward.” He also felt the ballet teacher was a lot like his own ballet instructor here.
I haven’t joined the FB page yet - I will! Thanks so much and hope your D has a wonderful summer!

@mezzomother My S just LOL’d at this and said it’s easy to figure him out - one of the guys in the program, dancer first…that’s pretty much all the clues you need. He is so excited for your D too! He is happy with his choice but regrets that he didn’t sign up for an MT audition at PP in time - not that he would have gotten in, but when he got in for acting and saw all the opportunities for MTs, he was a little bummed that he didn’t even get to try. He has a good friend who is heading there for dance and we keep hearing great things about their arts programs. I hope she loves it there!

@Jerseymom99 Thanks!! Point Park was a top choice for her all along, just glad she has the opportunity to go there. She really loved Ithaca, and it’s closer to home, but they didn’t love her back… lol. These kids will all have such great opportunities, they are so lucky to be spreading their wings very soon!

@Fergie978 , I hope this isn’t out of place but did your D participate in the CLO recital on Friday? We were there and were blown away by the talent of the last two female performers and I’m positive those two young women are going on to amazing things. It kept niggling at the back of my head that I was sure I’d read about a CLO audition class in the final decisions thread so I kept going back and back and back in the thread until I found the post.

first time poster long time lurker…maybe too late for this string with everyone set for college…Loved everyones journey.

He’s our story: D is currently at THE CMU summer program. she is dead set on a BFA program…she is just a rising Junior so we have " some" time. I am reading bc my wife and daughter thinks im way too early to the game but clearly from all of you, I am not.

how do i start forming the " community" with those who will be part the 2024 class whirlwind…

thanks for sharing your personal journeys

@NYYFanNowMTdad don’t know if there is an exact appropriate time to start a class of 2024 thread but I do know that the one for this coming years group started in May. You could follow it, see what has changed as this years group goes through the process, possibly chime in and then in the spring start one for 2024. Here is the link for this year http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/2084225-the-class-of-2023-sharing-venting-discussing-p1.html

@NYYFanNowMTdad You will be so very glad you started early! Junior year is the perfect time to start, especially if you are considering coaching (many will start with a coach spring of Junior year). BAL. I agree with @Boilermom - the 2023 group is probably a great place to start.

Thanks @artskids & @boilermom

regarding coaching seems CAC is the one that gets you to moonifieds?( how important is that?) MTCA seems well regarded too. She has a local voice coach who seems OK. she starts this year at a PA HS for half a day outside our regular HS so again i think shes off to a good start. but the pre screen recordings audition season seems like a real challenge to navigate without help… seems people dont think the CMU summer program will help her- but couldnt hurt, right?? sorry to hijack this thread ill follow the link @Boilermom-thanks

@NYYFanNowMTdad you may also want to check out the following thread re: coaches http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/2079384-advice-opinions-on-specific-coaches.html#latest
Whether or not moonifieds are important is a personal decision. Moo requires you to 1st have a consult with her ($175) then purchase her online prep course which is $699 before you are eligible to be considered for moonifieds. While it is a nice benefit, some say its too early in the season for some students to be ready to audition. Anyhow, there is more information about that on the thread referenced in this post.

@boilermom- thanks

@NYYFanNowMTdad - I love your user name! You are totally at the right time to start thinking about applications because next summer is such a busy time. I think the coaching stuff has totally been hashed out on the referenced thread and you might find your best application prep information by following along with the class of 23 this year. It’s easy to get overwhelmed just know that your D can’t do everything so you will still need to use your best judgement to winnow down to what will work best for you, your D, your budget and your family.

@CAMOM13 thanks I am probably overly involved( learning) but im happy to help as much or as little as she needs.

@NYYFanNowMTdad I agree - you are doing this at exactly the right time. I started following the class of 21 during the summer before my son’s junior year so we’d know what to do when his audition season came. I don’t think we would have been nearly as prepared as we were if I hadn’t, and it helped us make it through without a coach - just lots of my time. S thought I was crazy at times when I was pushing him to get something done early, but he needed that scheduling help.

I know this is an old post and not sure if you will see this but would love info on Auburn’s program.

MTmama19 you might want to ask this in a more current thread. Off hand, I don’t know if anyone from the c/o 2022 committed there (from this group). Or maybe start a new thread, so people see it easier?

For those asking about Moonifieds. It’s not only audition that’s early. We just went through college audition process & live in Dallas. We used Polish Your Passion NYC vs CAC. Daughter did North Texas Unifieds, Chicago Unifieds & lots of on-campus auditions. CAP also has early auditions in Atlanta with many of same schools as Moonifieds. There are lots of State Auditions with same schools as Moonifieds too like North Texas. http://capunitedauditions.com I have a very happy daughter who picked BFA MT @ Missouri State.

If any of the 2022 families are still hanging out on CC I would love to know how your child’s experience has been thus far… based on the programs they have now been at for a few months, I’m most interested to know about the level of support you feel that the school & it’s faculty are giving it’s students. We are class of '23 and looking for a program that has supportive faculty that cares about the well-being of the students. Looking for a program that values individuality among it’s students and prioritizes their mental and physical well-being (… as opposed to just breaking them down to build them up as cookie-cutter versions of each other and past students). Any input appreciated!
