no opinions?

You have a better than average chance. Just make sure you make yourself look good on the apps.

would my chances increase if i did engineering?

If you want to do engineering, then mention it, it helps. But i dont find that really necessary with your stats.

thank you- any other opinions?

My son went through this process last year and is now a happy freshman at Duke. The only thing that I can tell you is that after my son's results of last year, I feel comfortable saying that these things are simply too unpredictable to "call". I say this because the elite colleges that liked my son's application REALLY, REALLY liked it. He received an acceptance from JHU with its highest merit award, the Hodson Scholarship. He received an acceptance to UPenn with a special invitation into the highly, highly selective Vagelos Program in the Molecular Life Sciences. Duke accepted and then actively recruited him with telephone calls and emails. And he received other acceptances from less selective colleges with significant merit awards.

BUT, he was also rejected from his share of schools, a couple of which surprised me, especially one which "everyone" thought he would fairly easily get into.

The fact of the matter is that acceptance to any school is based on so many factors other than just your stats. IMHO there is nothing in your stats that would PRECLUDE your being accepted to Duke, BUT those things are only part of the picture. One hundred people could tell you that you are a shoo-in, but that might not necessarily be so.

My advice is to put together the best possible app. that you can for Duke. You have an obvious love for the school--let that show in your essays. Do your best.....and then place the whole thing in a compartment of your mind and forget about it. I mean, REALLY FORGET ABOUT IT.

My son was unable to apply to Duke ED last year due to financial constraints. He would have had he been able to. But he did go ahead and put in an EA app. to another school. In December, he was rejected outright from that school, and the psychological devastation was immense. If you DO decide to put in an ED application, realize that you just may be sitting on a rejection as your only feedback for many, many months. It is very difficult to NOT let this affect the remainder of your application process.

You, along with many others, have an excellent chance at acceptance on the basis of your stats. I so hope that your ED app. is successful and that you can have this whole thing over with in December. But if it DOESN'T come out that way, know that you will most likely have many fabulous options come April. That happened for my son, but in December, he never would have believed it.

I wish you much success and happiness! ~berurah

should i apply under engineering or the college- all other factors aside- which option will more likely get me in (i wont necessarily do that im just curious)

ur son turned down a full ride to JHU for Duke, and you couldn't apply ED for financial reasons, is this a real story?

bball87~

The Hodson Scholarship was not a full ride. It was a 2/3 tuition scholarship (specifically $86,000 over the four years). And yes, the story is real. ~berurah

berurah, was your son the one that painted over the Duke basketball goal before being accepted? I think I read about his acceptance last year. Congrats-you must be very proud of his achievements!

browneyedgirl55- At this point, your chances are roughly the same at either. Apply to the one you like more.

warblersrule86~

lol YEP! That was my son. Of course it was back to Duke blue a few minutes after the acceptance. Now, when anyone new tries to find our house, I tell them to look for the basketball post that is painted blue with white lettering, "Duke "09"! And thanks for the congrats... ~berurah

FYI, here's an article on transferring between Pratt and Trinity.

http://www.chronicle.duke.edu/vnews/display.v/ART/2005/09/27/43392579a22e1

Yes, I have no idea who that was, but I really hope she doesn't go to Duke.

She posted it in Italian...don't ask me why. Anyway, I think the mods deleted all of her posts. :)

So I shouldnt take her words to heart- I do have SOME reasonable chance of getting into Duke right?

Yes. Based on the responses on this thread (and your others), I think most (normal) people agree you have a good chance at both Trinity and Pratt.

I would agree with warblersrule! And I wish you the BEST of LUCK!!
