I’m a national merit and national achievement semi finalist, but from what I’ve heard on this forum it seems like a few Cs on your transcript almost guarantees a rejection for finalist? Is this true? I had 1 C freshmen year and a few Junior year… Does this take away my chances for becoming a finalist? How low of a gpa is acceptable? With my current home situation, I haven’t really had the chance to do extracurriculars so I couldn’t put much on the form other than a few awards… Are my chances for either NM or NA completely screwed?
From past years’ threads, NMF doesn’t seem to be based on your GPA per se, but on the number of C’s or lower on your official transcript. How many of those lower grades would be acceptable seems to vary somewhat year to year. It seems that one year, people were rejected for one or two C’s but other years 2 (or maybe more) C’s were ok. You could check previous years’ threads but you won’t know for sure until you actually apply and the Finalist application is not difficult. I wouldn’t worry about the EC’s (you should include any jobs you have had) and I don’t know about the National Achievement award.
What is ON your transcript?
Are those C’s quarter grades, semester grades, or year-end grades?
Some transcripts don’t have quarter or semester grades. Some schools only put year-end grades. What does YOURS look like?
I don’t know if the same strictness holds for NA
