I am currently a High School Senior in Missouri and am looking for a school with a quality pre med program that will get me into medical school. I also dont want to go any more than 5 hours away from home. Cost is a big limiting factor as we have enough money that we get very little financial aid but my family doesn’t have enough to pay for college. I want to get through college with paying the least amount as possible with hopefully no student loans as medical school is quite expensive. So far I have applied to Washington University as a reach school, Creighton University, University of Missouri- Columbia, and Truman State University as a safety school. I would also like to be a part of the Honors program of the school that have one. I currently have a 31 on the ACT and that most likely won’t go any higher. I participate in Band and Choir and plenty of extracurriculars and I am also an Eagle Scout. I would like some feedback on the schools I have applied to so far and would like some reccomendations on some other schools in the area to check out.
I recently looked at Drake University. They have a full ride scholarship with a minimum of top 5% of class, which I am, and have a 31 on the ACT, which I also have. Does anyone know my chances of getting that scholarship? Also does anyone know much about that school. I browsed their website, and it seems like a college good for pre med but some second opinions would be nice.
Yes Wash U is a really big reach. My mom wants me to apply to see what happens. I doubt I’ll go there. And yes, Mizzou is the University of Missouri Columbia.
A big problem I have with the University of Missouri is the issues that they had on their campus recently. I could afford to go there very cheap but will the issues that they had last year still affect the education I receive from them.
@EvanAlmighty847 Full disclosure, I am a contrarian at heart. When other’s don’t want it, that’s when it is cheaper to buy. Don’t confuse demand with value. Mizzou is having trouble with admissions due to the recent conflicts but I would look at that as an admission opportunity. It is hard for me to imagine that would have any impact on your overall educational experience, most notably, in the sciences.
But for medical school, you want high overall grades, high science grades, high MCAT scores, a relevant medical EC and as little debt as possible. Go to the college where you believe you can accomplish those goals.
@BearHouse That is really nice to know. I’ve been really worried about that and it is nice to have a second opinion. Knowing this makes Mizzou a more appealing option. Thank You. By the way I just got my acceptance letter yesterday. I’m really excited.
