I guess thats it - thanks for the chance - i will of course chance back!

4.0, good SAT1 and SAT2s. Good variety of ECs. Your economic lecture series sounds very cool!

Trading strategy and investing your own money? Suspicious about the first part. First of all, a new trading strategy would be patented and you would be very successful. Second, as someone who invests my own money in stocks and options to increase the money I make teaching tennis, I know for a fact you have to be 18 to register for an account. You go to a private school as well. It sounds like youre family is well off, but it doesn’t sound like you started with your own money, which is not as favorable to adcoms.

Math teams are good, engineering firm summer job (did you file papers? what did you do?), photography, finance… Ummm what are you majoring in?

I just got my 2012 guidebook today. Maybe you could dual major at Olin school for business and arts and sciences?

You should be okay for WUSTL ED. Just pick something to focus on and write good essays.

Chance me!

Wow you raise a lot of good points - thanks for the input. The economic lecture series has been really rewarding - I started it because my school cut the econ department a few years ago. The trading strategy is not patented, its just a personal way of trading options (it is my own money - the money I made from summer jobs). You are right though - since my personal trading isnt a huge EC I may leave it off entirely. Uhm the first summer job that I had at a local business I was put in charge of developing their “members only” website - and as part of that I had some formative experiences. The job this summer - at the engineering firm - i honestly dont know what I’m going to be doing. I was actually thinking of majoring in just that - some combination of business and the sciences. Thanks for your chance :)

If you combine to the sciences and business, you need to appeal to two different groups. I would keep the trading in ONLY if you have made SIGNIFICANT gains in your market value and cash holdings since you started. It is very important you make sure WUSTL knows it is YOUR hard-earned money and not that of your parents.

For math/sciences, it is very important you establish significant ECs and produce results. The math team is good and you should build on that if possible. The engineering job worries me. It shouldn’t take the entire time of your summer away. You should go after an internship and start individual research. That way, you can use Intel STS and other major national competitions to your advantage. That time is important, and the adcoms want to know how you use your time.

That is why adcoms look down on hospital volunteering for 400 hours. While kind and all, all it does is train you to push people in wheelchairs. See what I mean? If this job isnt hands on and substantial for your application, you’ll have a hard time trying to get admitted.

Use your time wisely, and good luck!

I appreciate your feedback - though as I am a rising senior now there is only a little I can still do to bolster my application. The engineering job is definitely not an all-summer commitment as I am also going to the Wharton M&TSI program and am teaching a photography class. Please correct me if I’m wrong on this - but at Wash U I do not apply to the individual colleges for admission (like UPenn).

I think you apply to the college itself and specify which school. I filled out the pre data sheet and I had to rank the schools. Otherwise don’t know. Sorry.
