Finally! Decisions out 3/14 confirmed!

Unless I am the one who is wrong (which would be mortifying, but not unexpected), it’d be nice to see admission decisions at 1:59:26.535897932384626433832795028

I also think it ought to be AM, and not PM, so that it’d be officially pi according to military time. :)

It’s times like this when I am very, very glad to be twenty-one.

philosophy entertainment: Where math meets philosophy! Pi Clock

I was thinking all night last night if such time exist!!
I know it kind of does exist because there is March 1:59:00000… and March 2:3:0000… and in between.

We clearly know that human mind can’t detect it but I was wondering how computer could have detected it? It will take an infinite amount of “time” to make such kind of computer!!
Like we would make 19 digits accurate Clock then make 1060 digits accurate one and so on.
We don’t have to stop the time thought “which is impossible any ways”, since we are only interested on March… So we can build, build and build ( one to one mapping/injection) and build … I am assuming there is no 1212, end of the world, etc but only Cantor’s paradises  I am religious man though :)

Do you guys see what I am talking or do you “feel” me? I am kind of confused. This could be related to Georg Cantor’s world or may be it is too trivial but I can’t see it?

Lett’s build it even if it takes forever and ever, humans don’t give up.

I sure hope you don’t plan on going into engineering =P

cgarcia, are you talking to me?
And, are you still awake, I could not sleep!

^^ I went to sleep after 5 am :P

There is Planck time. If you measure less than this time, you get more than you measured.

Does anybody know if the acceptance rate for deferred students is any higher or lower in RD? I’m hoping that my deferral somehow means I’m a little more competitive. I know that MIT says a deferral EA doesn’t factor into RD admissions, but…I’d like to see a statistic.

Last year, according to the admissions website:
Deferred to regular action 3,644
Deferred applicants admitted during Regular Action 299

so a little bit less than 1 out of 12 deferred applicants get in. which is a little lower than the EA admit rate which is a little bit more than 1 out of 10.

On the other hand, last year, there were 10981 RA applicants and 758 were admitted. So the RA applicant admit rate is around 7%, which is less than the EA rate. make of it what you will.

The reason for RD admit rates being skewed is that international students can only apply RD, and their acceptance rate is ~3%.

i think they are calculated in a different category

Handala - the stats are correct. they admitted ~1000 students RA but I subtracted the 299 of those that were EA deferred so I was only taking the percent of RA applicants that got in that applied RA and not EA.

I was born on Pi day!!!
What is the odds of some one being born on Pi day is in CC.

Getting accepted on your birthday must be best ever:)

Getting rejected at your birthday is the worth birthday ever:(

I am pretty sure that I shall get my first Rejection on Pi day. Great that I wasn’t born on Pi Day haha. Perhaps you have better luck than most people I think, Inconclusive. Very impressive date haha! :)

See it this way, if you don’t get accepted you still have something to celebrate

If I remember correctly Stephen Hawkins bet against that an object which was suspected of being a black hole actually was a black hole, this way if he would have to cope with it not being a black hole he would have something to be happy about. Learn from one of the smartest men on earth. Kind of similar situation?

Handala92, That is really crazy, this can really happen to some one :(

I was just kidding, I was’t born on Pi day!
I do NOT know my birthday, so it could be on Pi day though!
They put January first on my green-card, may be I should change to Pi day.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with you. :(

^
How come you all guys are so sure that you will get rejected!
I wish you the best luck.

Because MIT is one of those very, VERY few places where CC standards < actual standards.

Not exactly. MIT is one of those places where CC standards are not directly related to MIT standards. MIT wants AWESOMENESS out of its applicants, whereas CC focuses on 2400’s and unweighted 4.0’s. That’s not where brilliance lies.
