Ok here is the deal. First semester I will be going to Suny Stony Brook which is a Type I Research College (wHat ever that means). I will than transfer in the spring to Suny Binghamton which can overall be considered the best NY state school ( Geneseo is also up there). Anyway I went for my scheduling but unfortunately some of the classes I needed to take were filled/conflicted so this is what I ended up with:

Calculus I ( 4 credits)
General Chemistry I (4 credits) ***No lab
Intro to Economics (4 credits)
Intro to Pyschology (3 credits)
Freshman Seminar ( required, 1 credit)
Total: 16 credits

Problems: I was placed in a writing class that would suffice a half semester of the English requirement for Medical school but they were filled so I couldn't take it although they said it would be open in the spring ( but I will be transfering so I don't know what to do about that). The school strongly advised everyone there not to take two science classes first semester so I couldn't take Bio and Chem together. Lastly The Chemistry Lab that goes with General Chem I was mostly filled and the few that were left conflicted tiime wise with the actual lecture class so no one was able to take it and the advisers said try in the spring.

Anyway If I take it in the spring at Binghamton (assuming they let me) then would be Chem Lab II be backed up in which I would be forced to take it over the summer especially because if I take Bio in spring I would already have two lab classes to deal with. Also For the one year of math, Can I fullfill the requirement with just Calc I and II and not have to take stats? My adviser was making me take Calc II instead and use my AP credits but I remembered it wasn't a good idea to do so.

So what can I do to fix the lab issue and taking Bio a semester late because then Bio II w/ lab would be stacked with Organic Chem w/ Lab and I really don't know if that will work out.

I certainly don't know what to tell you, so I'll bump your message. I have never heard of taking a science and not taking the lab along with the class. Seems poor planning by the school as the lab is supposed to augment the material you are learning in lecture. No way to change your lecture time in order to get the lab in? I'm not sure why they tell you not to take Bio, esp. if you are not going to get the chem lab. Many students routinely take Chem and bio with the labs in the same semester (doesn't mean you have to)

As far as the Calc, just make sure you will still get credit for the Calc I, with the AP on record. A friend of my son's at Chapel Hill was advised poorly and wasted time in a math class that she received no credit for because of her AP score (they will not let you take a class for credit that you have demonstrated competence in already).

I could probably sort out your message with some mental effort - and I will do so later if my request proves impossible - but is there any chance you could sort through your questions and list them in 1, 2, 3 format? I think you're more likely to get good responses that way.

1) I am going to take Calculus I and then II next semester; is that enough to get the one year math requirement out or do I still have to take stat? I got a 4 on the Calc AB exam but I don't want to AP out of Calc and go into a higher level. Will I still get credit for Calc I?

2) Same thing with Pyschology, I got a 4 on the AP but I am taking Intro Pysch. Should I stick with Intro or move up a level to let's say a bio-pysch class which is a 200 level course.

3) I got screwed with the Chem Lab b/c most of the lab class was filled and the remaining coincided with the lecture and none of the advisers knew why the chem department did that. B/c of this I dunno if binghamton will allow me to take a chem lab I with Chem II/lab and Bio/lab. And since I can't take Bio first semester should I take Bio II in the summer or pile with Orgo next Year?

4) I can't take English because the level I got into is full and the level below that doesn;t qualify as the one year requirement for med school; I can't take any other english class b/c the pre-req is that freshman writing class which I can't take until spring but I am transfering so I don't know If I should take the lower level class so that I can get the credit in case binghamton makes me take their freshman english class.

1.) I'd still recommend stat, since some schools ask (recommend) it specifically.

2.) Psych not being a premed requirements, I'm not particularly in a position to advise you. Generally speaking the advantage to harder courses is pretty minimal.

3.) I don't like summer courses. Med schools are rumored to look down on them, but more importantly it obstructs you from doing other important things with your summer. Generally speaking, it's pretty common to have a bio course with orgo, so that's my recommendation.

4.) Well, if the lower level doesn't count for medical schools, then I wouldn't bother with it.

Hmm If stat is still recommended should I just take Calc I and then Stat and not bother taking Calc II?

Also If I don't go to summer school then my Lab's classes will be screwed b/c I'll then take Chem Lab I in spring while taking Chem II along with Bio I w/lab. Or should I take summer classes but only for the Lab of General Chem II ( does CC or any college actually let you only take a lab portion only?)

Calc II may be required for physics, besides which it's just a good course. A couple schools specifically recommend a year of calculus, but I'm not sure exactly how they work.

You'll have to check with your specific school about what the recommend re: the lab situation, but your various options are not clear to me at this point. I don't think it'll kill you do to your labs a little out of order, though.

Ok thanks I'm less stressed now because I thought I really messed my schedule. As for the labs, I just find it weird that I have to delay each one but I did email my advisor so I'll see if they can somehow fix it or add it in my schedule somehow. As for summer school I doubt, because I'm going to transfer, that I will find something solid to do over summer in terms of researching at my college. Volunteering I can find but it's going to be busy work so I was thinking can I just get a summer job or should I strive to get some sort of medical related internship.
